My grandmother Mary Kelly ( born 10th May 1878) was related to Princess Grace Kelly. I think their fathers were brothers She married Patrick Molloy ( born 19th March 1876). I am trying to find her parents

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You don't indicate whether Mary's marriage to Patrick Molloy occurred in Ireland or America. I did locate a 1904 marriage in Keelogues parish on the subscription site Roots Ireland. Keelogues is near Caslebar. Is this the correct marriage?

Grace Kelly's grandfather John Henry Kelly emigrated in 1869 to America from Newport Co. Mayo. He and his wife had ten children including John B. Kelly, father of Grace. Other sons were Patrick, Walter, Charles and George all born in the Philadelphia area. If Mary was born in Ireland, there is no way her father was a brother to John B. Kelly.

Possibly the connection is further back but Newport and Castlebar are a good distance apart.

  • Thank you Roger, yes I think that could be the one. She was from Keelogees (10th May 1878, and my grandfather was from Strade born 19th March 1876. They emigrated to Woolton, Liverpool where my father was born in March 1905.

  • The only 1878 Mary Kelly baptismal record is the one below per the subscription site Roots Ireland. Baptismal date is shown as October 27 not May 10. The next closest record was an August 1874 record.

  • Am now wondering was it a "fairy story" being related to Princess Kelly, though I do remember a good gilt invitation to meet Princess and Princess Ranier (as part of the Kelly clan I thought ) when they were in Dublin in the 1960's my father just left it on the masterpiece as one did in our family and took no notice of it !
