This is a very, very long shot in the hopes of finding my great-great grandparents origins, as I have almost no information about their lives in Ireland - except they both came from Waterford. They both migrated (probably separately) to Blackburn in Lancashire, which is where I think they met. They married in St Anne's Catholic Church, Blackburn on 4 Oct 1856. James POWER (b:1833) was a Masons Labourer at the time; his father's name was Patrick POWER and deceased by then. His wife-to-be was Margaret BUTLER (b: 1838), whose father was named as Thomas BUTLER, also deceased. One of the witnesses was an Ellen POWER - sister? - or may be no relation at all - which begs the question, did more of his family settle in Lancashire?. It is only through the English Censuses that I found 'Waterford' as the place they were born. James disappeared sometime between 1871 and 1877 after which Margaret remarried, and when she then gave her father's name as 'Dominick' BUTLER !!?? As you can see, there is not much to go on. But perhaps one of your experienced helpers knows where and how to dig! Here's hoping.........

Val,
Have you done DNA? I also have a power connection and my surname is Butler. I have both Butler and Power DNA matches in Ireland and Great Britain. Look for me on Myheritage.com Family tree called "ButlerBakerKelloggWise"

Hello James,
Thank you for your reply. The short answer is 'No', but I suppose if I am to break down this brick wall, that is the way to go. I have a second cousiin who has done a DNA test, but nothing has shown up - yet.

Hi James, Sorry if I sound 'dumb' - not having done DNA testing not familiar with the terminology. I have contacted my cousin and he is happy to 'speak' with you directly. This is his email address: jdouma@icc.corp.com.hk. He will be able to put you in the picture as we have been working on this together for over 12 months. Val
