Power

I have 3rd great grandparents, John Power and Ellen Flynn. Both born about 1800, he in Stradbally, Co. Waterford and she in Co. Waterford, (possibly Trinity Within. If so bapt. 27 Feb 1802 parents Michael Flin and Mary Power.) John and Ellen's children that I have found are Michael 1820-1896, James 1824-1905, Morris 1825-1899, Bridget (Rabb) 1830-1910 and Margaret (Walsh) 1827-1874. All of these children emigrated to Worcester, Worcester Co. Massachusetts, USA around 1850. Ellen may have also come over. Morris is my 2nd great grandfather. I have been searching for info on John and Ellen for over 30 years and only in the last year begun to find some. Please let me know what you think. I am hoping that there are to many similarities for us not to be looking for the same John and Ellen Power.

Hello! Thanks! Wish I knew more, but my third great grandfather was John Power in the Stradbally or Kilmacthomas area. Not sure. Born around 1795 or 1800. Married Margaret Flynn. Most of their children came to America, in 1851. They settled in Covington KY, because it reminded them of Ireland. Rolling green hills. Their son Anthony, married Mary Flynn, & their other son, Patrick, married Ellen Flynn, sister of Mary. So, those families were very close. Mary was the daughter of Thomas Flynn & Bridget Ryan. These Flynns were from Curraghroche, Affane, Waterford, & were boatbuilders there. Other Flynn's in the family also went to Covington, KY. Anthony & Mary were my second great grandparents. My grandmother used to say that her grandfather lived in the same town as Tyrone Power's grandfather. I think it was Kilmacthomas or near there. Funny, but my father looked just like Tyrone Power! Probably related. Anyway, some of their relations in KY had names like Foley, Morrissey, & Lyons. Could be a clue. I, too, have been looking for over 30 years! Let's keep looking! I'm sure we are related. Have you done dna testing? I have. I also have a tree on Ancestry. It should show up if you search for my dad, Vincent Thomas Foss, born 1922, Mainer, Ohio. Just a quick note. I too am on ancestry.com with 'the Power Family Tree' run by myself, Edwin Power. I have DNA testing both from ancestry and CRS Genetics. I confess I don't even know how to begin to use dna. I do know at least last names of all thirty two of my 3rd great grand parents and 27 of them go back to Ireland (about 1800, Ireland for me has been a dead end for ever.) To confound this my maternal grandmother's family settled this country in the 1620s and 1630s then go back to England and possibly in the 10th century were part of the Seeds who ruled England. I have a great deal of information to work on but want so badly to do something for my Irish ancestors. Anyway, tried looking up your tree to compare but could not. I thought my tree would come right up, because it shows up for me when I log in, but I guess not for others. I have to figure that out. I tried to email you my tree. Hope it works! 
If you click on dna relatives, then on search, then enter Power in Worcester, Mass., I wonder if it will show any of the relatives that my list shows. I tried it, & at least three names showed up that I am related to, & they had Powers in Worcester. They were: deefitz409, Michael O'Leary, & Jacqueline Dee. These three were related to me, & had Powersfrom Waterford who went to Worcester, Mass. So, if you have any of them on your list, then we would be related. Hope that makes sense.  I didn't see you on my list, but sometimes it's just slightly too distant to show up. I will check again.
I have never known the town where my Powers came from, except for the story about Tyrone Power's grandfather living in the same town. When I look up Tyrone Power's family history, it says that they lived in Kilmacthomas. But, it could be a smaller, nearby village ( such as Stradbally). I'll check further. I'll let you know if I find anything.
