Hi
I am looking for my ancestor Patrick Ryan. He was born around 1854 in Mountbellew but he is very inconsistent with his year of birth.
His father was also Patrick.
He came to Stafford, England around 1881 and married Julia Welch in 1883.
Together they had 8 children, all born in Stafford, who were Austin Patrick (1884), Minnie Margaret (1885), Bernard Patrick (1887), Louis Michael (1888), Agnes Mary (1890), Gertrude Alice (1892), Julia Gladys (1894) & Patrick, Phillip, Anthony (1898).
Julia's parent's were Patrick Welch and Bridget Kilkenny.
Patrick died in Stafford in 1939.
I would really be grateful if you could help in any way as he has been my brickwall for many years.
Thank you
Sue (Ryan)

Sue:
Baptismal records for Mountbellew RC parish start in 1848 and are available on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I searched but there were no Patrick Ryan baptismal records with father Patrick in that parish. The closest record was a November 23 1851 baptismal record in Kiltullagh RC parish (a few parishes to the south from Mountbellew) with father Patrick and mother Bridget Fallon.
Have you considered DNA testing? Possibly you will get some matches that have Ryan connections in East Galway.

Hello All,
I have just seen Sue's message and the very helpful replies. My ancestor is also a Patrick Ryan (circa 1829-31) who lived in mostly in Walsall, Staffordshire and in Rochdale, Lancashire for a few years. The 1851 census in Walsall has his birth place as Mount Mary, Galway. His mother Catherine (circa 1800-1805), was also living with him until her death in Walsall in 1865. The death cerificate name John Ryan as her husband but I have found no records of him in England.
Patrick married Mary O'Donnell in Walsall in April 1850 and had (at least) 8 children some of whom appear to have stayed in Lancashire and others moved back to Walsll by 1881. Mary's birth place was recorded as Mayo.
I have searched extensively for anything other than the 1851 census to verify Patrick's birth place and would love to know if any other relatives exist. I have been unable to find anything further about Mary other than the marriage certificate that records her father's name as James.
I would very much appreiate any help or guidance,
Jane (Ryan)
