I was unable to locate church or civil marriage records for James, Patrick or Eleanor so I presume they married in the States.

I found a likely civil death index record for Owen in 1875. Currently, www.irishgenealogy.ie has civil death record images starting in 1878. They plan to add the earlier images at some point likely this year or next and at that point you can view the record. In the interim, if you really want a copy of the record, you can write to the General Register Office and get a copy for around 4-5 euros plus postage. if you want to go this route, let mke know and I can provide the instructions.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I also came across a record for Owen Tighe (his death) and thought it could be a possible match. I would be happy to send away for it if I thought there would be any additional informatin--for instance: names of parents, address at time of death, place of birth. These are facts that are sometimes on death certificates in the U.S. What do you think? Will I learn anything to conclude this was indeed my relative?

I have taken 2 DNA tests--Ancestry and 23andme. Is there any way thee could be useful? The sad truth is that I have gotten very few "hits" on the Irish side.

I can find no record of James or Patrick marrying here, but I can find two women with matching children's names on passenger lists from Ireland--that is why I concluded they married in Ireland. Is there any further route to pursue?

Would it be possible to determine if there are any Tighes still in the area around Beltra?

I would be happy to post what little I know about Catherine. I know more about one of her daughters, who immigrated here and married a Thomas Kenny.

A death record would show: date of death, age of deceased (as provided by informant),where the deceased lived, cause of death, name of informant and usually the relationship of the informant to the deceased. Here is a page of death records. The fourth one down (Charles Phillips) was one of my great-great grandfathers.

You may want to look into Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com  Gedmatch is a volunteer run site where you can load your raw DNA data (from either Ancestry or 23 and Me) and see if you match someone who tested with another company (and also loaded their data to Gedmatch). It expands your matching pool. You may not match someone in Ireland but you may match someone in England, Canada, Australia etc who has more infomation on your Irish families.
