Hello,
I'm hoping to find out more about a murder that occurred near Nenagh on April 12, 1841. The murderers were eventually apprehended and were a Denis, John, john Jnr and William Needham.
a reference is http://www.igp-web.com/tipperary/newspapers/guardian_1841.htm
I am most interested to determine more information about where the murder actually occurred. The Coroners inquest reference is made to Curraghmore but i cannot locate that place near Nenagh and the Assizes record mentions Kilbaron - is that near Nenagh?
The victims were John Gleeson and Timothy Tierney both farmers. They are the people I most wish to find out about - where, exactly, on the map were their farms? I would like to find out as much as I can about Tierney and particularly Gleeson. I've tried to access newspaper articles from Australia but have had no success. The reference http://www.igp-web.com/tipperary/newspapers/guardian_1841.htm mentions an article in The Times but I haven't been able to find it.
In August 1841 at the Assizes John Needham, John Needham, Jr. and William Needham were found guilty of the manslaughter of John Gleeson and Timothy Tierney. Is it possible to read the report of the case or would that have perished by now? Denis Needham was not apprehended until 6 oct 1843. Can anyone advise whether I can find out about the sentences handed down, please?
The reason for my interest is that my 3 times great grandfather was a John Gleeson, farmer who died (rumour of murder) around 1840-1841 leaving a young family. John's mother in law was a Tierney so this case is ticking the boxes for me.
Would anyone in Nenagh or around the area be able ot help me flesh out this story to determine more about the victims and their families please? I'd love to be able to determine that yes, this is my ancestor and then be able to put my finger on the map to say Yes, this is exactly where their farm was.
Thanks for reading and thank you if you are able to assist!

Dear Barred_BAndicoot:
Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!
You might try to access newspapers through the Irish News Archives or the British Newspaper Archives. Those links are below:
https://www.irishnewsarchive.com/
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/
Newspapers are a wonderful resource for research as they often include the court cases that are no longer available due to destruction of documents, etc.
The mention of "Kibarron" is a civil parish near Nenagh and we have a very active and knowledge group there. They may have more information for you.
If you have a FindMyPast subscription, the newspapers on the British Newspaper Archives are included. Good luck with your research! If you need any further help, you can email me at: jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Good morning
As a follow up to your query regarding murder of John Gleeson and Timothy Tierney we would have some folklore information on this event
Did you manage to locate it in the Nenagh Guardian of the time there is a full description of the tragic event
Curraghmore is a townland on the shore of Lough Derg on the river Shannon we will attempt to locate the exact position of the farm in the area which is in the parish of Kilbarron
If you wish you can contact me at Terryglass1@irelandxo.com and we can provide info and maps etc
