My 2x great grandfather Joshua Moore said on his military records he was born in Carrickfergus in 1859. In 1879 he said his closest family member was his brother James. He had two sisters in 1879. His Marriage records say his father was John Moore, a sailor. I am looking for any information on him.

If Joshua was born in 1859, then that’s before the start of statutory birth registration in Ireland (1864) so you won’t get a birth certificate for him. Prior to 1864 you need to search for baptism details. To do that you need to know his denomination. Carrickfergus has a number of churches: Congregational (Baptisms start 1819) Church of Ireland (1740), Methodist 1815, 1st Presbyterian 1823, 2nd Presbyterian 1852, Loughmorne Presbyterian 1848, Woodburn Presbyterian 1863, RC 1852. Copies of all those records are held in PRONI in Belfast. In addition, the RC records are on-line on the NLI site.
If you can’t get to PRONI you might need to employ a researcher to go there and go through the records for you.

Good evening Jennrick, through my ancestry dna results I have a distant cousin cjcartwright66 living in Columbia Tennessee that has a tree with Miriah Jane Moore born in Butler Kentucky on November 25 1841 married to a John Melvin Cartwright in 1860. Miriah's parents were Samuel Barney Moore and Mahala Smith, ring any bells? On GedMatch.com Im a positive dna match with:
Comparing Kit A352115 (Frank John Nolan) and A971015 (Cinda Lyn Moore Lillibridge)

Thanks for your response Frank! We do not match on Gedmatch but we do share a common match with llmurphy on Gedmatch. I have 358 pages of Cartwright matches on ancestry so I am not sure if cjcartwright is in there. I will have to look on my computer later.

Thanks Elwyn. I don’t know his religion. His children were baptized both Church of England and RC. He was married in the Church of Ireland in Newtownards but the lady there said they weren’t part of the church. I found some records for the RC Church in Carrickfergus that may be them but I can’t confirm. Unfortunately, I am not in a position yet to pay for a researcher.
