Hi,
I am interested in any information on the Millan/Millane/Millaan family from Cloontra. I believe this is the family of my 2nd great grandmother Mary Millan (b. 1834), whose father was possibly named John. Mary had a brother Michael (b. 1841), and both immigrated to Pennsylvania, USA about 1853, probably with other siblings or parents.
Thanks, all!

Peter Millaan Cloontra East
Patrick Millaan Cloontra was a tenant of landlord George Sampson
John Millaan Cloontra was a tenant of landlord George Sampson
Martin Millaan Cloontra It would appear that Martin was a tenant of John Millaan perhaps there was a sub letting of land.

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu… This death cert is for a Peter Millan (various spellings of this name appear) of Cloontra , 29/7/1930 , he died following a collapse of stones in a quarry. His surname is amended to Mullane, he is 46 years old b 1884 ? perhaps a son of the older generation in Cloontra.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…; May 1896 Death of a Michael Millane age 62 years. His death is notified by Patrick Millane Cloontra but the place of death is Sallybank in the registration district of Bridgetown, I have come across a number of births/marriages/deaths with combinations of Sallybank/Bridgetown/Tulla etc and the name Millaan/Millan/Millane/Mullane so keep in mind when checking records as I think these relate to your family.

Eileen,
Thanks so much for these sources! Any suggestions on where to find a marriage record for Michael (or John) Millan and Mary Lynch, about 1834? And baptism records for: Mary b. 1834, Michael b. 1841, Thomas b. 1848, Ellen b. 1849? This is the family that emigrated to the US. How many Catholic parishes should I research?
I used my mom's DNA matches to narrow down the Millan search to an area including Cloontra and Broadford, and certainly encompassing Bridgetown. Griffith's Valuation has not been useful, UNTIL I found the 1821 Freeholders List proving there were Millans in Co. Clare. I went back to Griffith's, and discovered the surname is spelled Millaan there, which is why I never found it in earlier searches. Sigh.
It seems only 1 Millan family came to the US, as there are very few descendants matching my mom and her Millan cousin, and they are all from the couple named above.
Please let me know your thoughts on where to take my research.
Thanks again,
Celeste
