This is the information I have which is verified. Michael Maloney born C1851 Currafin County Clare emigrated to USA, then sailed on the "Star of the West" to Australia. arriving in Sydney 11 September 1877. He travelled to Sydney with his wife Susan nee Kilmartin ( C1855 - 1933), and infant son William Francis Maloney. They settled in the Canberra area, raised 7 other children Margaret, Mary Elizabeth, John Bryan, Bridget Mary, Annie, Susan, and Michael Patrick, and became sheep farmers in the area of what is now the Australian Capital Territory. Information which I have not seen verified is his parents were John Maloney and Mary Maloney nee Whalen. They lived their lives in Currafin County Clare. Hearsay has it that Michael left Ireland as a single man and married Susan Kilmartin in Providence Rhode Island. For reasons I am hoping to find, he then left for Australia. I have a comprehensive picture of his, and Susan's life in Australia and their descendants. I am now in search of his ancestors in Ireland. Any help would be much appreciated. Kaylean

Have you seen the assisted emigration register for the Moloneys? If you have Ancestry, you can see it here: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/1204/images/IMAUS1787_… It indicates that the couple were from Ireland. The son, Wm, was born in Rhode Island. Michael's father was John Moloney, living in America. Susan's father was Bryan Kilmartin; place of residence not clear. It could say Co. Cork or Colonie.

On rootsireland, I found the following transcriptions for the baptisms in Co. Clare of two children of John Moloney and Mary Whelan. The ages are close to those shown in the 1860 census; inexact ages in U.S. cenuses are common. BRIDGET MOLONEY Baptism: 01-Jan-1843 RC Parish of TUBBER, Co. Clare Father: John Moloney Mother: Mary Whelan Sponsors: Pat Moloney Margt Moloney Notes: REV M O'BRIEN MARGARET MOLONEY Baptism: 01-Jan-1844 All other info the same as above, except the sponsors were John Grady and Mary Whelan.

Hello Patricia,
It is only now that I have come across your wonderful information from your replies of last year. Thank you sooo much. It does tie in with many of the names of Michael and Susans descendants, eg Bryan is still being used and my grandmother's generation used John, Bridget, Mary, Margaret. I am going to further investigate the people you mentioned before proceeding with the extended family. I am not a subscriber to Ancestry so am unable to look at that information. Just wondering; are you are part of this family? This part of the Maloney's can be found in most states of Australia and number in the hundreds.

Hello Kaylean,
So glad you found the info helpful.
Many libraries subscribe to Ancestry, so it's possible you could use it there without subscribing.
Finally, I'm not a member of the family...just a volunteer for IrelandXO.
Good luck with your research!

Hello Patricia,
Not are you only helpful, you have opened up the brick wall to the family puzzle. As far as I know, no one from the Michael Maloney, Susan Kilmartin branch has managed to get any further than the information I posted last year. We had no idea John and Mary nee Whalen left Ireland as a family and there are possibly other "twigs" in Nth. America or further afield. Thank you, thank you. Whatever I find, I wshall post so others may benefit from your wonderful work.
CheersKaylean.
