I'm looking for information about my grandfather and his ancestors. My Great Grandfather was Martin McLoughlin his wife was Margaret(Burke). They had a farm in Cloonshvina according to the 1901 and 1911 census. Sometime before 1911 my Great Grandmother must have died because she is not listed on the census. They had a son August who was born about 1870 and married and stayed on the farm. My grandfather was Martin, born Dec. 19,1873 and baptized Jan, 3,1874 in Killian. My grandfather immigrated to New York about 1890. He also had a younger brother Andrew who immigrated later and lived in New York with my granfather for a short time.

I would appreciate any info that I can add to what I have already found.

Thank You,

Trish McLaughlin Allen

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located a few records. First link is the 1869 civil marriage record for Martin and Margaret. Names of their fathers are listed. I found Margaret's 1905 death record and Martin's 1933 death record. I did not find a birth or baptismal record for Austin. Besides Austin, Martin and Andrew, there was a sister Ellenora baptized in 1875. See transcription below from Roots Ireland.

  • Hi Roger,

I can't begin to thank you for the research you did. You were so fast in replying. I've only been doing this since Dec.26,1919 and have found what I thought was quite a bit. My father was the baby of the family and I don't think ancestors were discussed. With this crazy coronavirus going on I'm finding that my computer is calling me alot.

My next dilemma is my paternal grandmother. She was older than my granfather so I think she lied a lot about her age(boy how times have changed, thank goodness). I know she was born in Ireland, her name was Mary Agnes Gleeson. I think she was born about 1869.I found a ship manifest that I think she was on. Some of those manifest are very hard to read. The best I could make out was that maybe she came from Limmerick. She sailed out of Queenstown and arrived in New York July,26,1886. She married my grandfather on Feb.20,1898. I know that I'm not giving you much to go on but any clues would help.

    Thank you again,

After overloading on ancestry I took a break now I'm back to it.

I'm trying to find birth records for my great grandfather Martin McLoughlin born about 1848. I know his father's name was Augustine from his marriage registration.I'm particularly interested in finding out my great grandfather's mother's name. I think I found an extract from a census return of 1851 that shows an Ellen Kelly but I don't know if that is accurate. Also my great grandmother's birth registration Margaret Burke born about 1840, her father's name was Martin but I would also like to know her mother's name. From my great grandparents marriage registrations I know that my great grandfather was from Cloonshivna but I can't make out where my great grandmother came from. I've tried several different spellings with no luck.

Also their oldest son August stayed on the farm but I can't find any record of his death. He shows up in the 1911 census.

They had a daughter Elenor that was born in 1875 but I can't find anything on her after that. I was almost wondering if she died at a young age.

My grandfather Martin and his brother Andrew immigrated to the United States. I have been able to connect with Andrew's grandson while doing my research.

Any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for all the work your volunteers do.

Not having any luck. I tried to find the baptismal records for Martin McLoughlin and Margaret Burke but did not find them. Same for death records for August McLoughlin and Ellen McLoughlin.
