I have been researching the Welby family for a number of years. My great grandmother was Bridget Welby who married Bartholomew Molloy of Tullykyne, Moycullen. I thought that Bridget came from Ower, kilannin but I am no longer sure. I found a record for her birth in 1839. Her father is named as Matthias Welby and her mother as Mrs Matthias Welby. She also had a brother, Michael and a sister, Mary. Any my help in identifying Bridget’s mother or her maiden name, would be greatly appreciated. I do not have a precise location for Matthias and his est. year of birth is 1818. Many thanks Mary

I presume your ancestors were Roman Catholic since all the Galway Welbys were RC in the 1901 census. I was unable to find the 1839 baptismal record you mentioned on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find the marriage record to Bartholomew Molloy. Could you share those records? Thanks!

Dear Roger,
I found the record on familysearch.org for Bridget Welby . The marriage, we think, took place in July 1859 in Kilcummin and Bartholomew’s name incorrectly recorded? Again from family search.org, Bartholomew’s mother is recorded as Judith and his father as Malloy?
