I am looking for some help in locating the marriage of my great grandparents Mary Mitchell and James Mulhere. I have found birth records of their 5 children - Thomas 1867, Anne 1869, John 1873, James 1879, and Michael 1881, all born Coolnageeragh, Portumna. But I can not find a marriage for them, nor any credible information for Mary's parents (I have a Lawrence Mitchell/Ellen Bohan as a possiblity). Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Pat
Welcome to IrelandXO.
This is the Marriage record for Mary Mitchell to James Carey !!!!! of Coolnahgeeragh March 1867. Her father Laurence. His father James Carey. https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
Would not associate Mulhere and Carey. As both James & John Carey signed with an "X" the Priest may not have been local and recorded phonetically.
They were also closely related as noted on the Church Register (1st + 2nd Cousins, 7 a-Kins to be confirmed !) https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632946#page/206/mode/1up

Thank you! I had found the Carey/Mitchell marriage on irishgenealogy.ie, but I had not found the church record. I was thinking that there may have been a mistake with Carey/Mulhere too, especially since I can find no record of the correct marriage, and I know parents from the childrens birth record. I also can not find any Carey children with Mary Mitchell as a mother, but there could be other reasons for that (unable to have children, moved out of the country, etc.). It is a real mystery.
But the most interesting thing is something I would have ignored in the church record
1st + 2nd Cousins, 7 a-Kins to be confirmed
That is fascinating, I never knew those additional characters referred to how closely the married couples were related.
Thanks again,
Pat
