You might be interested in a facebook site called: Cork Genealogical Society / IGP County Cork. I just joined because my 2nd great grandmother is a Mary Keleher (b1823) from Cork.  She emigrated to Ontario, Canada at some point before she was married in 1843.  Through this group I have already found DNA matches to several people who have a Keleher/Kelleher connection.  My DNA matches were all to those with ancestors in Glantane, Macroom, Clondrohid. Inchigeelah is in this same area, too. Do you have a Gedmatch #?

So sorry to be late on this post. Very busy May! 

Have you taken a DNA test? The major companies who do this are: Ancestry.com, 23 and Me, and FtDNA. I am sure that I have missed a few others).  After you receive your results, you can then download your Gedcom (DNA) to GEDMatch. It is a free service that helps you find even more relatives because it matches you with people who have uploaded their data from all of the DNA testing companies.  

Thanks to the release of vital records and documents that are now on the internet we can find out so much more about our ancestors. The DNA tests are really vital and if you are able to take one it might help to connect to relatives who could eventually lead you to your Mary.  My dad and mom ( both 88) did their DNA through 23 and Me.  Thanks to them, I have been able to break a few brickwalls in our ancestry!

As I mentioned in my first post, after joining the Facebook group: Cork Genealogical Society / IGP County Cork, I found DNA cousins (Kelleher's I presume!).  I would urge you to join and post your request to them.  There are many knowledgeable members who may be able to help you find your Great Grandmother Mary. If you have difficulty with this facebook page I will ask the moderator if I can repost your request ( with your permission).

I found informtion (below) on familysearch.org which you may have already seen it. It looks like Mary Cronin was born in February and baptized in March. I imagine that Corn. was short for Cornelius.

Dear Shauna,      Thank you for all the information. No I have,nt taken a DNA TEST and i,m not sure how to proceed.

I am aware of the familysearch record with regard to Corn or Cornelius Cronin and what makes that interesting is that

my grandfather John Scannell applied to the Dublin PRO in early 1900s for a birth certificate for him.However Dublin 

replied that because he was born prior to the keeping of records in 1864 they were unable to help.

Do you have family or a friend who could help you take a DNA test? It is usually ordered online

and delivered through the mail.  It's a saliva test, so there is a lot of spitting involved :)  I highly recommend if 

you can do it.  I can provide links to the most used Genetic testing companies if you'd like to check into it.

 

I am a member of a small group who all share a Keleher/Kelleher ancestor and also share a fairly small amount of DNA.

I will ask if any of these members have any knowledge of the Keleher's/Cronin's/Scannell's in their family trees.

 

I wonder if you could request your Great Grandparent's marriage record from the registry at St Patrick's Cathedral in Skibbereen, for

13th, February 1859. This may provide more information with their parents' names.  I will also see if I can find anything online.

I will look into the matter of a DNA test and let you know. As regards my gr/grandparents Marriage details I already have a copy

from St,Patricks Cathedral Church,Skibbereeen,however there are no parent details only the witnesses Johanna Cronin and Timothy Burke.

The church could find no record of their birth or christening..

Is Norrie short for Honoria?  Just wondered.

I have't developed any new leads on my Mary Kelleher/Keleher and need to brush up on our 

correspondence.  I didn't want you to think that I had forgotten ( well, just a little! :)
