  • Diana,

Can you either attach a copy of the image or tell us the date and place of the marriage with the couples names, so we can look at the occupation? That way we will be better placed to help.

  • Elwyn,

I previously responded to Diana's post.

I am looking for a marriage record of James Higgins and Mary Buckley. I have the birth and death records from both of them, as of their children, But I cant find the marriage record, not the civil nor the church one... can I ask you to helpp me?

James Higgins is the youngest brother of my great granfather, he lived at Cloncullen, and appears 1st with mary in the census of 1901 and later with Bridget ( McGrath) in the 1911 Census...

Thanks in advance and have a great day!

    Diana

    • Diana,

Sorry, I don't know. It might have been transcribed incorrectly. He was a farmer when his son James was born and on the 1901/11 censuses.

When his wife Mary died in 1907, he was identified as a farmer.

Elwyn you always do such thorough research. Is the BR a mistake or does it have meaning?

Thank you for helping Diana out- Mary

  • MaryTV,

BR doesn't mean anything to me (nor I suspect anyone else) It's probably a transcription error. (Much of that transcription work was done by people on a job creation scheme and they didn't always have the skills to get everything right, especially when the priest's handwriting was hard to read. I would really need to see the original to give an opinion on what it really says.)

I am not able to find that marriage in the on-line civil records on genealogy, so can't help with that version. Not every marriage was reported to the civil registrar as was supposed to happen. Possibly this one was overlooked.

The National Library only has copies of the parish records till 1880. Later ones are not on-line. I would contact the parochial office in Ballymore and ask them if they can send you a copy of the original entry in the parish register. See what that says. (Post a copy here if you still need help).

  • wow! sorry didnt receive a notification of your response! Yes, I was only curious, census says he was a farmer, as everyone in the family, but you never know... and was really hard to find that marriage info, thanks to both of you to take so omuch trouble to find if there is a meaning or just an error... Hoping to find out!
