I am looking for where my Great, Great grandfather Roger Fryer and his last name was changed to Friar during the American Civil War was born in Ireland and from what port he left from in Ireland for America and what year and port he landed in America. On his and his wife's head stone in Michigan it says, "Native of Roscommon, Ireland". Records state Roger was born in 1818 in Ireland and died in Michigan in 1901. His wife, Mary (Fetherstone) Fryer, on head stone, Friar, was born in 1817 and was 18 leaving Ireland (obituary notice). I do not know anything about where in Ireland they were born except they both were natives of Roscommon, Ireland. Roger's father may have been James Fryer, now Friar in USA living with him in Michigan.
If you need additional information from me, e-mail me at roslyn.powers@gmail.com. Thank you for any assistance you can provide to me.
Roger was my father's great, grandfather.

Roslyn:
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and was not able to locate a Roger Fryar baptismal record in Co. Roscommon in the time period around 1818. Same with Mary Fetherstone, the closest I could find was 1808. Mainly, the RC parishes which have records back to 1817-1818 are the larger towns such as Boyle, Elphin, Athlone, Castlerea and Roscommon. Likely your Fryars and Fetherstones came from a parish which has records starting much later.
They may have departed from Galway town.
Have you taken a DNA test which might give you matches with 3rd/4th cousins who have more info on the origins of the family in Co.Roscommon

I went on Ancestry.com and there are many records and a family tree for the Fryer/Fetherstone family. I assume you have seen these records.
I looked at the two main Irish tax surveys in the 19th century and one area of possible interest might be the north of Roscommon county in the civil parishes of Ardcarn and Tumna.

My relatives were probably younger than 18 when they left the City of Roscommon, Ireland for America. It seems like Mary Fetherston was married to my relative, Roger Fryer, when they left Roscommon, Ireland for the Americas. I will check Ancestry.com for the family tree to see if that will help me. I will ask my brother to take an ancestry DNA test. Thank you. Please keep digging into my ancestry. I sincerely appreciate all your help.
