Looking for any help with tracing my ancestors. Armstrong O'Beirne, Prendergast who left Leitrim in 1865 with 5 children, to sail to Melbourne, Victoria and then on to Launceston, Tasmania. They were sponsored by a man with the surname Keon.or McKeon. All these names appear in the civil Parish of Kiltoghert. Lustia is listed as the location where Some O'Beirne family members were living according to the Griffith's Valuation 1848 - 1864. I was told by my oldest living family member that our ancestors came from Lustia, County Leitrim. I have not been able to trace any Irish records other than the birth of my great uncle John O'Beirne. His birth certificate states his place of birth as Lustia, Superintendent Registrar's District of Carrick-On-Shannon, Registrar's District of Drumshanbo in the Union of Carrick-On-Shannon. He was born on 28th or 29th (if Leap year) February, 1864. His parents were Patrick and Maria O'Beirne.nee Prendergast. Their other living children were Susan, Patrick, Frank and one other sibling.

Patricia/Margot:
The Kiltoghert RC baptismal records are available back to 1826 and marriages back to 1832 on the subscription site Roots Ireland. However, a search finds no records for the older children of Patrick and Maria or the marriage record. Lustia is located more in the northern part of Kiltoghert civil parish and I believe the family likely attended the RC parish of Murhane/Murhan also known as Drumshanbo. Baptismal records start in May 1861 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0163 and marriages in June 1868. There was a chapel in Murhaun/Murhan back to at least 1837 so the records prior to 1861 were likely lost. I will take a look at the register for baptisms but likely the older children were born before May 1861. I also looked in Roots Ireland in Co. Roscommon but no record.

Patricia/Margot:
The Murhaun/Murhan parish register is very difficult to decipher and the entries are in Latin which many registers were at that time. I first looked for a record for John since we have his date of civil birth. I located a record for John on the left hand side of the page at the link below. Looks like parents were Patrick O'Beirne and Maria Pender. Patricia: Have you seen Pender used in other records?

There is also a December 7 1861 record for an Ellenora O'Brien with parents Patrick and Maria Pender. Is Ellen the name for the other child?

Dear Margot, I was thrilled to receive your reply. I can look into the references you have given. In regard to Maria Pender, I have never heard of this name connected to Patrick. However, it may be an error made by the recordkeeper. I will be in touch. Thanks again. Patricia O'Dowd.
