Hello,
I'm looking for any information about my ggg grandfather John Welch born about 1820-4 and died in 1899 Sacramento, California. I do have his Naturalization paper and it states his birth August 1, 1824, but his death record and headstone say 1820. Also various census records have 1821 and 1822. He arrived in Boston, MA. in 1840 according to his Naturalization paper as a minor.
Not sure who his parents were he had three sons- Francis Mathew Welch, William Joseph Welch and James Owen Welch. The names that keep repeating in my family are John, William,--- Francis and Joseph for a middle names.
I'm not sure, but through DNA testing I think John may have been from Westport-Newport area and Castlebar. My mother, uncle and myself have DNA matches with Walsh ancestors from that area. My uncle has taken a Y-DNA 37 marker test ( surname) for me to try and determine a possible area of Mayo and his results were interesting he had no Welch/Walsh surname matches at that level, but five distant Gibbons matches with their ancestors from Mayo and one from Clare Island.
My family and I will be in Ireland June 7-18 and staying in Galway. I would love to find out any information if possible. Thanks for any help.
Best Regards,
Shelly Blair

Hi Jane,
So sorry I haven't replied till know. I took a break from researching after our trip to Ireland and have been busy with my daughters.
Thank you so much for this information!
This could be what I have been looking for so long. My mother, uncle and myself have several McLoughlin DNA matches, but I can't figure out how we our connected to them. I believe Ballina is North Mayo, I have been looking so long in South Mayo...I do have many DNA matches in South Mayo--so confusing. I will try and dig a bit deeper if possible.
Thank you! I truly appreciate you looking for me.

Dear Shelly:
Absolutely no problem. Please keep us posted as to your progress. If you would like to, please feel free to add your ancestor John Walsh to the XO Chronicles. The link is below:
