My great Grandfather, Denis Regan, son of John Regan and Mary Sullivan, was baptized in 'Cloyne, Shandrum" in April 1840. I found his baptismal record in the Catholic Parish Registers (copy attached).
I am wondering what would be the name of the church where he was baptized.
Denis emigrated to Canada, but I assume his parents are buried in Shandrum. I have not been able to locate any info (DOB etc) on either of his parents.
I will be in Ireland this Spring and would like to visit the church & cemetary, if I can find them.
Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions?
thanks!
Margaret

Margaret:
The present day parish is St. Joseph's in Newtownshandrum https://cloynediocese.ie/parish-shandrum/ The current church goes back to 1847 according to these pictures on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1162334187299449&s=24&paipv=0&eav=AfbHomxYFrm3cauy_V7UVIPwG23SJAYNKKHH3BstsOERbEZ8deNTvxU0LUwKH5Q-B6U&_rdr There was an earlier chapel.
If you have not done so already, could you complete this form regarding your trip to Ireland https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet I'm not sure if we have a volunteer in the area.

Thanks - I have been using our Canadian archives site for Cdn census info but hadn't found the Ireland specific page. Will explore it as well.
BTw - the link you sent no longer works, but I was able to update it to find the new link: ttps://library-archives.canada.ca/eng/collection/research-help/genealogy-family-history/ethno-cultural/Pages/irish-canadians.aspx
