Searching for any information on my King and Fitzgerald families. I believe they came from Portlaw as my great grandfather James King was born and baptised there and one of his sponsors was a Mary King. James King married Anastacia Fitzgerald who was known as "Anty".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You might include the address - townland/street - which is recorded on any of the certificates and the years which you are researching.

Thank you for your reply, however I have very little information. What I do have will include here. Parish of Portlaw Diocese of Waterford. James King baptism on 12 August 1836 (Ther is a note to say that no record of date of birth in baptismal register) Parents Thomas King and Mary Donovan sponsors: Mary King and C Gillaker. I also found the following: A child registered in Portlaw to Thomas King and Mary Donovan. 4049 KING JAMES 12 Aug 1836. Faather Thomas, Mother Mary Donovan. Sponsors on this document reads Maher Charles, King Mary. Parish Portlaw & Ballyduff Church Portlaw &Ballyduff. Priest Rourk Michael, Register B/1825-1860 P 142. I note two different sponsor names on both documents.
Street address of Mary King could be Carrick Road. Portlaw.
I found a James King from Portlaw attending a Repeal Meeting in Prince Edward Island 1842? but have found nothing more.
Kind regards

Hi Denise,
Portlaw is in the Civil Parish of Clonagam, Barony: Upper Third, Union of Carrick-on-Suir. I have checked Griffith's land and property valuations taken in late 1840's and I found a "Mary King" at No. 40, Knockane Road, Townland Coolroe with a House & Garden. No record for a Thomas King in Portlaw.
There are three others named "King" in Portlaw: Elizabeth - House, Office & Garden, John King - House, Office & Yard, John King, Carrick Road,Townland of Mayfield - House & Garden. You can access those records at - www.askaboutireland.ie - Free Site
In Roots Ireland I found a record for a "Mary King" whose parents are shown as Thomas King and Mary Donovan with the address: Tinaslee in the parish of Templeorum & Owning in the County Kilkenny. This parish is on the North side of Portlaw across the river Suir. Baptism: November 1st 1839. Sponsors: Michael Morohan/Monahan? and Margaret Tobin. I cannot find any record for this "Tinaslee".
There are a number of families named "Donovan" in the Portlaw area of County Waterford on Griffith's list.
If I come across anything further, I will post it to you.

McCoy
