The 1901 census show Denis and Kate with six children in Killuney townland in Temple-etney civil parish.  Denis wrote his surname as Kayes but the summary page prepared by the RIC constable shows Keys.  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Kilcash/Kill…

1911 census again shows Kayes  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Kilcash/Kill…; four children and a grandaughter in the house. Kate indicates married 36 years and she had 11 children all living.  Constable shows Kayes on summary sheet.

    John 1878 Hanora 1880 Mary 1883 Bridget 1885 Paul 1887 Denis 1890 Philip 1892 Margaret 1894 Patrick 1896 Peter 1899 Henry 190 or 1904

Denis and Kate were married October 9 1877. Names of their fathers on the record  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…

  • Oh I think I've messed up again. My grandfather was born 5th December 1905 he died august 1961. His brother was Henry I think born 1904.  Granddads parents were john Keyes 1878 and Bridget stack I think was 9 years older but not positive. John Keyes was the son of Denis Keyes born 1858 and Catherine lee. Does all thst mske sense

  • Hi Roger

thank you so much. Wow. How did you find them. Can you tell me. We're Denis and Catherine still having children even when John was having children? Was it john born in 1878 the father of Henry who was born in 1904?

  • Maureen:

I believe Denis was the father of the 1904 Henry. So John's son Denis (named after his grandfather) was born a year after his uncle Henry. All of these records are on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie

i have tired to use the geneology site and i cant find Denis keyes birth cert born 1858 and i have totally confused the whole lot of them on the ancestry site lol my heritage i seem to have them all in right but not on ancestry, and as for the dna kit , god i cant match that up at all, so many people on my list and i have no idea how to read it, its quite confusing , have you done the ancestry dna test? did you find it confusing at all to read and understand it.

stay safe and god bless, Maureen

  • Maureen:

I'm not related. I'm an IRO volunteer that assists people when they post a message.

Civil registation of births started in 1864 so if you were using www.irishgenealogy.ie  there won't be a birth record for Denis.

I have done the Ancestry test and also Family Tree and My Heritage.I'm pretty familiar with DNA data and matches.

  • Hi Roger ignore that last message. I realised you sent me a link to the genealogy civil records so I clicked it and removed part of the link and filled in the names. Omg I found all granny's sisters and her birth date and her dad was michael. Really excited with this. Granny raised me most of my life so it's all very important.
my mothers birth is a minefield though so I'm going looking for her ancestors next. Can't thank you enough for your knowledge and assistance Regards. Maureen

  • Maureen:

Thanks so much for your generous donation!

See third record for marriage record for Mary Shine and John Keyes. Her father was listed as  Michael  Mary was listed as 23 which would put her year of birth around 1915.

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…

See fourth record for possible birth record. Was she Mary Josephine? Note father was shown as Martin and mother Annie Hynes so I'm not sure I have the correct record

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

Were her siblings older or younger? I'm having difficulties finding correct records.

  • Hi Roger. her dad was Michael. I saw mary Josephine and mother Maggie Rielly which was my great grandmothers name  I found all the sisters and I think I found their brother michael

I can't find Denis Keyes birth cert born 1858 but I think he was born 1857 his dad was john and mother mary

Cindy said she found his baptism cert but she didn't send it to me and it said he was baptised 1858 Feb but his birth was meant to be December.

  • The biggest difficulty I now have is although I've searched high and low I can't trace mums family on the Higgins side. I know her mum was Josephine Higgins then Josephine mum was kitty Higgins and kitty's parents were patrick and kathlene Higgins she was hopkins in maiden name and they come from kennagh in CO longford and I've head st Johnstown mentioned. I think the Higgins were big land owners in a very Protestant village but Higgins were Catholic. I know Harrison's factory got land from Higgins way back in 1949-1955 or there about.

I searched for Patrick Higgins civil marriage records from 1887-1920 in Co. Longford and found one record where the bride was a Hopkins. However, the name is Elizabethnot kathleen.

Is this the correct record? fourth record on link

  • Hi Roger

yes. I think that is them. It's also their daughter I'm looking for she was Kitty. She later married harry Grogan from athlone.  She had my grandmother Josephine I think in 1929. Josephine died in ballymahon on 23rd April 1983 but I can't find anything on Kitty or Josephine
