I'm currently searching on behalf of my Brother law for his ancestors:
His Great Grand Parents Mary Annie McCoubrie and John Jock Thompson emigrated to South Africa in 1893. It is understood that they may have left two children in Co Down at the time of their departure. Mary's Year of Birth was c.1865.
Any Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Frank,
I searched for a marriage between John Thompson and Mary McCoubrie (and variant spellings) between 1881 and 1894 but did not find one in Ireland. Likewise I looked for any children born to parents of those surnames, also without success. There were 2 McCoubray females born c 1865. There’s an un-named female born to William & Susanna McCoubray on 10.1.1865 in Ballynahinch, Co Down. (In the early days of civil registration it was quite common to register a child’s birth without any name).
Also Mary Ann Galway McCoubray born 29.12.1866 in Belfast to John McCoubray and Eliza Heron.
Part of Belfast is in Co. Antrim and part in Co Down. However Springview St is in Co Antrim so this may not be the right family.
Sorry but I can’t find any other information that might relate to your family.

Hi Elwyn, Thanks for all your help in this matter. I think my post originally was a bit premature. I have since do a whole pile of more research and this is leading me in the direction of a Muir McCoubrie Family in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim. So last night I placed a new post to that parish with my current progress in this matter. At the moment I am looking into the possibility of finding baptismal records for the the children of William McCoubrie b. Greenock Scotland 1861 and his brother? Edward Muir McCoubrie. Both can be found on the 1901 census. Ages respectively 39 yrs and 37 yrs. Willliam has moved to Waterford in 1911 and both were gardeners. Thanks again for all your help and apologies for not replying sooner..Frank
