Hi I'm really struggling trying to find any  birth/death/residence records for John Francis Maloney c1866? All I know is it says he came from Galway, he later went to America. I'm also having problems finding his parents birth/death/residence records his Father's name was Bernard Maloney c1840? and his Mother was Mary/Maria Cain c1840?.

I have asked for help before and had some kind people try to come to my aid, but only giving me information I already have. I think that maybe they also struggle to find the information I am looking for.

Any suggestions please?

  • Jude,

I have looked at the birth records for John Moloney born in Galway from 1864 to 1870. Civil registration records began in Ireland in 1864. Below is possibly what you are looking for? John was born in 1864 to Bartholomew Mullowney (Maloney is the current spelling) and Mary nee Kain. He was born in Gortnadieve, Ballinakill, Glenamaddy, Co. Galway. The current townland is divided into Gortnadeeve East and Gortnadeeve West, and they are in the church parish of Glinsk and Kilcroan, Diopcese of Elphin. The parish also has Kilbegnet in it. Be aware that the townland/parish is on the border with Roscommon, so records could be in Roscommon. Church records in Ireland started at various dates, so you wold need to check https://registers.nli.ie/ to find the record start date for Ginsk.

There are Tithe Applotment Books for Gortnadeeve from 1864 and there is Michael Malowney there. There are also lots of Cain and Mulowney families (including Batley Mulowney) in the Griffith Valuation House Books of 1853. It is also worth checking the Griffith Valuation records of 1856.

If this is correct, there is lots more research!

    Best wishes, Kieran
