Looking for information on my Great Great Grandmother Johanna (Hannah or Honora) E. Grant who was  born around October 1841 in Waterford County.  Her father was Stephen Grant.  She immigrated to America around 1846.  She is listed in some records as Johanna, Hannah and even Honora so I am not sure which is the actual birth name.  Her Death certificated refers to her as Johanna.  Her first husband was a John Sheehan.  He died and she later married a William Murphy.  Her children with John Sheehan were Timothy, Thomas and Brigit.  Children with William Murphy were: Mary M, Ellie, Hannah, William J, Timothy Francis, John Stephen, and James.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for this information!   My middle name (Ellen)came from my maternal grandmother who was Honor's grand daughter.  How interesting to find out it is the name of Honor's mother!  Again, thank you.  I am so grateful .

  • Question.  I looked at the actual parish baptismal record from the National Ireland Library online site and noticed under County Waterford, parish Kill,  Baptisms:  8 October 1839, there where two listings mentioning Ellina (Ellen)Power.  They were listed as B. Julian Kelly FL Jacob and Ellina Power and the a few lines down Honora FL Stephen Grant and Ellina Power.  It is confusing unless one is a relative  or parent of my Ellina (Ellen)Power. I know Honora is my gg grandmother and Stephen Grant is my ggg grandfather.  I am wondering if Jacob is a Kelly or a Power. Could Jacob and Ellina Power just be standing in as guardians or could they possibly be my gggg grandparents? Is Ellina or Elline the latin form of Ellen? I noticed these records have quite a few "Power's" listed in that area. And finally what does FL mean in these records.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks in advance.

  • Hi Liz

Can you post the records you are citing? I'll then look on rootsireland.ie/ to see how the same ones are presented there.

  • I posted a reply but had problems with sending so trying again.  Below is the site I found a photocopy of the record online.  Not sure if I am allowed to copy and send it.  If possible let me know and I will try.  The web link below should take you directly to the acutal photo copy of the original document. It is from the National Library Ireland online records.
