Searching for years with no success on my Great Grandfather James Nevin, who was married to Bridget Golden around 1850-60 and lived in Aughris until his death 11 Apr 1923 and Bridget died 14 Aug 1919. I have yet to find their marriage certificate, so the names of their parents have been elusive.
It has been suggested that James Nevin's parents died when he was young and he was taken in my his mother's family that are believe to be "Murrays" that may have lived in or around Charlestown, Co. Mayo. My interest was peaked by the listing of a contributor of a birth of Austin Nevin as several of the first names were the same as the children of James and Bridget but have discounted that as the "Murray" name did not appear. I will seek out the parishes that might have the records of those living near Charlestown but it seems like a long shot or having to peruse the records individually, some of which are on LDS/British microfilm and not available online. Thanks for any information or suggestions that anyone can provide.

At the Family Search database [https://www.familysearch.org], there are records for James Nevin, his wife Bridget Golden, and 11 children (some of whom appear to have ended up using the name Nevins, rather than Nevin). You can find James at ID # L2T6-1LH, and can easily access the other records from his, as you will see. The database is free to use, after you set up an account. At that site, you can see the screen names of those who have created or modified records, and send them private messages, so you might contact them and compare notes.
The records show the family as living in Skreen, in Sligo, which appears to be just east of the civil parish of Aughris. Skreen is the name of both a civil parish, and two townlands within that parish, Skreen Beg (in Irish, An Scrín Bheag, meaning "Little Skreen") and Skreen More (in Irish, An Scrín Mhór, meaning "Big Skreen"). The Irish word scrín means "shrine".

At the link for each townland, there are further links to Griffith's Valuation and the 1901 and 1911 census records for the townand (if they exiist online).
At the Family Search site, there is birth info for each of the children, running from 1864 to 1891, some shown as being born in Skreen, some in Aughris, and some listing just Sligo. There are also records for Bridget's parents, Michael Golden and Mary Davey. The names of James's parents are not shown.
The name of the Catholic parish is Dromard and Skreen, and the parish registers available online for that parish go pretty far back (1817 for marriages and 1823 for baptisms), so you might be able to find baptismal records for James and Bridget, if they were both from that parish, as well as a marriage record if they were married there. In comparing the maps available at the last two sites mentiooned above, it looks to me as though the Catholic parish of Dromard and Skreen includes at least part of the civil parish of Aughris as well (a not uncommon occurrence), and that may have led to some confusion about place names.
