Looking to find Info on James Gould born abt 1798 in Ireland and married Rebecca Dearing/Derring abt 1825 in Ireland. They had 7 children born in Ireland they are Thomas 1827, John 1829, James 1830, Rebecca 1836, Sarah Jane 1839, William 1842, George D Gould 1846. D.OB’s are approximate. Rebecca’s Dearing Gould’s obituary in Canada states that, her and James came to York, Ontario from Londonderry, Ireland in 1846. Their headstone states that both James and Rebecca were Natives of Londonderry.
Canadian census records state they were Presbyterian
They moved to Blanshard, Perth, Ontario in 1850’s. They had 3 more children birn in Canada. Their oldest son Thomas marriage record in Canada states Co-Donnegal as his birthplace. Dearing/Dering is stated on her children’s marriage and death records in Canada. Looking to try and trace them in Ireland as I am unable to find anything on this family in Ireland.
I have searched the passenger records, ancestry, roots ireland, family search and many more without any luck.

While the following survey, Griffith’s Valuation, was taken after your Goulds left Ireland, it is more than likely the Goulds still had family in Ireland at the time of the survey. The records below might give you an idea of where your ancestors lived.
The following “Goold” head of households were in Griffith’s Valuation of Derry in 1858-59.

There were four Deering heads of household in Derry. The underline means that the person lived in the same area as Jane Goold above.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure how to use the info from the valuations. We did DNA testing hoping that would open a door. I will search to see if I can find any of them in other trees!
somewhere to start for sure!

The 1831 census of Co Londonderry has survived. I searched it and did not find the family. That fits with them being in Co Donegal at that time. Unfortunately the 1831 census of Donegal has not survived so I cannot search it.
You could get a researcher in Ireland to search the Presbyterian baptism records for Co Donegal to see if they can find the children’s baptisms. Copies of those records are in PRONI in Belfast. They are not on-line and so a personal visit is required to view them.
It would be helpful to know whether the Gould family were farmers or labourers as that can assist searching Irish records.
For general interest I have attached a transcript of a document from PRONI's collection in Belfast which discusses emigration from the Londonderry area in 1847.

Thanks Elwyn,
I will look at all this. That is very helpful to know that there could actually be baptism certificates as well.
