Need info on James Owens, born in Tobercurry/Tubbercurry, County Sligo about 1846, son of James Owens (a labourer at the time of his son’s marriage in 1874.) No information has been found regarding his mother or ancestry, although Owens is a common Welsh name.
Nothing is known about James’ childhood or early life. By 1871, James was working in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England. On Nov 3rd 1874, James (aged 28) married Annie Nolan (aged 22) in St. Alexander’s Chapel (Catholic) Kirkdale, Liverpool. They had 7 children.

Mark:
Baptismal records for Cloonacool (Tobercurry) RC parish do not start until October 1859 so a baptismal record for your James would not be available.
I looked at the 1858 Griffiths Valuation for Co. Sligo and there were ten Owens records. A labourer would not normally be listed in the Griffiths. There was a James Owens in Powells Borough townland in Achonry civil parish. Perhaps that would be your ancestor if he was leasing land.
I did not see a death record for the father so possibly he also emigrated to England.
The 1901 census for Powellsborough showed two Owens households both headed by a Dominick Owens.
Have you considered DNA testing?

Mark,
There is a civil death record on the free site irishgenealogy.ie for James Owens - died 29 Oct 1879, Powellsborough, 75 years, widower, occupation listed as farmer, and Anne Walsh present at death.
In addition to the 1858 Griffith's Valuation for James Owens mentioned above, there are also two records for a Mary Owens in Powellsborough.
