Hello

My 3x great grandfather James (John) Hickey born around 1797 Kilfinny, Limerick according to his immigration records, but have not found a birth record thus far. His parents are mentioned in the immigration records as Thomas and Bridget and the consenus of ancestry users is that her maiden name was Myres. I have not found a marriage record for Thomas and Bridget or birth records, but there is a death record for Bridget:  1879 Vol 5 Page 373 FHL Film no: 101589 - this record says she was born abt 1771 and was 108 when she died!!!  This has not been verified.

James Hickey married Mary Aileen Williams about 1823 but no record found of this event either.

They immigrated to Australia in 1855 with his family.  His daughter Honora who married John Keating immigrated in 1849.

I have DNA matches too Hickeys and cannot connect these due to unknown dates etc.

Any help would be so appreciated.

Kind regards

Lea Harvey

  • Hi Lea,

I have looked at the death record that you found for a Bridget Hickey in 1878. Did you notice that she died in Lehinch Co Clare ? A distanced of 92Km. I doubt that this is the same Bridget.

I have also tried to find matches to the marriages mentioned but unfortantaly I have not found any. Many of the dates that you have are pre records. Adare or Croom would be the parishes involed Adare records are from 1832 for RC baptisms and marriages, Croom begins in 1828 for marriages  but you may have some luck with births there.

The following is some info that you may be able work with.

I did find a Thomas Hickey in Ballinakil/ Ballynakill Kilfinny in 1834 in the Tithe applotments books.

There is  a graveyard in Ballynakill. I found a Thomas Hickey listed there.https://historicgraves.com/ballynakill/li-bykl-0024/grave

  • Thank you so much for this information, it is very much appreciated.  With so many relatives coming from Ireland on both my paternal and maternal side, I could easily spend 12 months in Ireland and still no find all the information I needed.  Thank goodness for kind souls, such as yourself. Thank you,

    Cheers
