Dear Friends, I am hoping you can help me find where in Tipperary my g-g-g grandmother came from. She was Catherine Slevin (Sladen, Slavin) born circa 1845 in Tipperary. She and older sister Margaret Slevin (born abt 1839) emmigrated to Australia in 1867. The death entry lists the father as John Slevin and mother possibly Margaret Kennedy. I can find no record of such people and without knowing where in Tipperary they were from I have been unable to get any further into speific parish records etc. Is anyone aware of Slevins in Tipperary in the mid 1800s or do these names ring a bell? I would be most appreciative of any assistance! Many thanks, Jess from Australia.

  • Hi,
I have searched and found Catherine and Margaret, they travelled in different years, both to Victoria.
I keep getting Toomevara as the birth place or the palce of Baptism. Is this correct?
    Please let me know.
    Cheers Margot

  • Dear Margot, thank you so much for getting back to me, much appreciated! That is correct, Catherine emigrated in 1867 and Margaret in 1865. I have found various Slevins around Tipperary but nothing to tell where my Slevins had come from - sounds like it is Toomevara, and I can now start searching parish records. That is marvellous! Thank you so much Margot!!!!  Warm regards, Jess
