I am trying to locate a birth certificate for my partner's grandfather who was born in New Inn [Newinn?] Tipperary in 1886 [2nd October].  His name was James Francis RYAN.  His father was Simon RYAN. I have researched all the usual geneology sites to no avail.  Would there be parish records?  How would I go about this.  Any help/advice gratefully received.  Thank you.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Below is the recordHe was born October 2, 1885. He lived closer to Bansha which is to the west of New Inn. Hard to read the townland name. Could be Ballyslatteen in Relickmurry and Athassel civil parish.

Thank you so so much.  That is so helpful.  More info than I ever imagined and then the incentive to carry on going back in the family tree.  Would you know how I could get the long version of the birth certificate of James Francis Ryan? I have his marriage certificate [his wife, my partner's grandmother] to Helena Bridget Ansell on 18.11.1915 at Curragh Camp Kildare [I am still looking for her date of birth but think it is c.1887.  Thank you again!

  • Marri:

I searched for a birth record for Helena and did not locate a record. There is a Mary Ansell in 1885 and a Lena Ansell in 1888 both in Co. Kildare.

If you want to get an official birth record for James Ryan go here https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx  I believe the cost is 20 euros.

  • Many thanks Roger.  I will order one!  Helena Bridget Ansell was born on 17 January 1888 to Mary [Walsh], age 22, and Henry Ansell, age 26 [but now can't find how I found that!]  In the 1901 census she lived in Kildare and Rathangan, Kildare.  Thanks again.

  • Thanks to Roger I now have all the certificates I need for my partner's passport application. However it doesn't stop there as I have become very interested in the family history and visited the area. It seems that Ballyslatteen is where his ancestors lived and I found a small and very old graveyard which had Ryan headstones. However they are so worn it was hard to read. Is there anyway I can find out where Simon Ryan and his family would have been buried. His death certificate link was kindly provided by Roger above. The small graveyard had no church nearby that I could find. Thanks in advance for any help/pointers. Marri.

  • Marri:

Try contacting Bansha church to see if they can assist. Simon may not have a headstone.
