Kilshanny is a small village just outside of Ennistymon in County Clare, here is a picture of the old Kilshanny cemetery.

According to the 1841-1852 census search form, Cornelius has siblings Patrick, Kate, Margaret, and Bridget; and his mother's name is Margaret. The residence place shows "Carhooduv" (aka Carrowduff), Kilshanny, Clare. Then there are 1901 and 1911 Census records for Cornelius and family in Carrowduff. 

There is also a 1855 Griffith's Valuation record for his father Patrick in Carrowduff. There is also a Michael Coogeran on that same record....perhaps that is Margaret's father.

The Irish form of the name appears to have been Ceathramhadh dubh in the early 19th century, which would usually be written as Ceathrú dubh nowadays, and means "black quarter [of land]".
