I'm looking for information on the Fr John Fahy. He is mentioned in Fr Jerome Fahy's Book- The History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Kilmacduagh- as a Parish Priest of Craughwell- "The Rev. John Fahy succeeded. He was a native of Peter's Well parish, a parish which has given a large number of
priests to the diocese. He made his studies at the Propaganda. The outbreak of the famine, and the efforts at proselytism then
initiated in the town, made his connection with the parish one of exceptional difficulty." So it looks likes he was in Craughwell during The Famine.

Looking to connect him to the Fahys of Peterswell.

  • Just to add to what Miriam located - the 1838 and 1839 Catholic Directory list a Tim Geoghegan as Parish Priest at 'Crochwell', no curate is listed for the parish and no sign of any Fahy or similar in the Diocese as Parish Priest or Curate. Not sure why he is missing in these two listings and yet shown in 1837...

    The latest listing I can see for John Fahy as curate at Craughwell is in 1845 (Thom's Directory), the parish priest at the time is Tim Geoghegan. John Fahy is not shown in the 1846 edition, and Fr. Geoghegan is still shown as the Parish Priest.

    Could there be a connection here with a Father John W. Fahy. See letters  -Thomas Fahy Naughton and a Father John W. Fahy - 1881-1886  @www.oughterardheritage.org
