I am trying to locate any information I can regarding my 3x great grandfather.  His name was Patrick Fitzpatrick, born approximately 1799 in County Mayo.  He married Elizabeth Bourke who I believe was also from County May and born approximately the same time.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Barb. Did they marry in Ireland or elsewhere?  Did they remain in Mayo or emigrate?  Do you have names, dates and birthplaces for their children?

  • Hi Maggie,

Don't know anymore details regarding Patrick or Elizabeth, but I do know they had a son Terence who as born in County Mayo in 1824.  His first wife was Ellen Miller was born and died in Ireland.  His second wife Margaret Singleton was born in England.  Terence went to Liverpool.  Not sure when, but he met and married Margaret there.

  • Are you familiar with the website Irish Genealogy Toolkit? It has lots of advice and tips and lists of resources.

    https://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com

Select the heading "Genealogy" on "Home" page then select "Place of origin" from drop-down list.  You might also like to look at "Societies" on the list.

Did Terence stay in England? Have you found him on each English census?

Where is Terence's year of birth from?  How accurate do you think it is?  Have you searched for his baptism? Is Terence the only child of Patrick & Elizabeth whose name you know?

Did Terence have children from his marriage to Ellen? Did they remain in Ireland or move to England ? Was Ellen's death before 1864?

How do you know Patrick Fitzpatrick's wife was Elizabeth Bourke? Where did you get Patrick's approximate y.o.b. 1799 from? Do you know if Patrick and/or Elizabeth remained in Ireland or went elsewhere?

    Sorry there's so many questions.

  • Both Terence's marriages were in Liverpool.

    1. Holy Trinity 1849 to Ellen Miller. Groom's father Patrick Fitzpatrick, farmer. Witnesses Edward Dyson & Ellen Fitzpatrick.

    2. St. Bride, Toxteth 1855 to Margaret Singleton. Groom's father Patrick Fitzpatrick, deceased. Witnesses James Marshall & Ann Wilson.

Baptism St. Peter, Liverpool, 1859 Margaret Ann Fitzpatrick, child of Terence & Margaret, abode Pellow St.

    (Lancashire Online Parish clerks www.lan-opc.org.uk)

Patrick was dead by 1855 but might have been alive in 1849. Too early for civil registration of death in Ireland.  It looks like he died too soon to have been included in Griffiths' Valuation.

An Ellen Fitzpatrick, aged 30 died in Liverpol 1853 (GRO Deaths index)

I was hoping that there would have been children of Terence's 1st marriage, born in Ireland, who would tell us, when they grew up, where they were born. I noted burial of an Ellen Fitzpatrick, aged 14, in Liverpool 1848, address Milton St., in case she was connected.

  • Terence had a sister, Maria.

Marriage 1849 at Holy Trinity, Liverpool; Evan Williams, slater & plasterer, Craven St. to Maria Fitzpatrick, full age, Trowbridge St. (same address as Terence); father Patrick Fitzpatrick; Witnesses Edward Dyson & Ellen Fitzpatrick (same witnesses as for Terence's wedding). (Lancashire online Parish Clerks)

Try to follow Maria through each census and see what she put for place of birth.

  • Thank you for the info on Maria, I did not have her husbands name.  Here is what I know:

Cannot remember where I got the name Elizabeth Bourke from, may have been another family tree.  My records show Ellen Miller was born in Wexford Ireland,  no children to my knowledge.  Terence and Margaret had the following children:

    Joseph 1857 - 1894

    Maria 1861 - ?

    Peter 1863 - 1933

    Thomas 1865 - 1927 (my great grandfather)

    Terence 1867 - 1892

Thomas and Peter started a fruit importing business called P & T Fitzpatrick which was in business in Queens Square Liverpool until the 1980s I believe, when unfortunately it when under.  My grandfather George son of Thomas worked at the family business until his retirement.
