Looking for information and relatives for my grandfather's family from County Londonderry. Grandfather: Samuel James Patterson, born, 1888, Derry. Arrived in USA about 1909. Great Grandfather: Richard Patterson, married to Rachel Booth, on Feb 22, 1876, in Ballylintaugh, Londonderry. Richard Patterson died Feb. 5, 1912, Londonderry. Richard Patterson's father was Hugh Patterson or could be spelled Pattison at that time. Irish 1901 Census states Richard Patterson and family living in Crossmakeever, (Townland), in Letterloan (District) in County Londonderry. Thanks for any information.

The 1911 census tells you Richard & Rachel had 7 children, all of whom were still alive at that time:

If you don’t know the names of the missing children, you should be able to find them by searching the GRONI site, using parents names and leaving the child’s name blank. One looks to have been Hugh b c 1881:

Griffiths Valuation for 1859 lists Hugh Pattison on plot 12 in Crossmakeever, a farm of around 12.5 acres. The farm today is up a lane off the Kinnyglass Road.
There’s no Patterson/Pattison farm in Crossmakeever in the 1832 tithes so that indicates the family acquired the farm some time between that year and 1859.

Martha, Nancy & Rachel signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912. Indeed Rachel seems to have signed it twice. So that tells you about their views on Home Rule. You can view their signatures on the Ulster Covenant site:

According to the Valuation Revision records, the Pattersons originally leased their farm but in 1909 they were able to purchase it under the Land Act (ie with a Government mortgage). The occupant changes from Richard to Rachel. It remains in her name when the records cease in 1929.
Probate abstracts from the PRONI wills site:
Probate of the Will of Mary Jane Patterson late of Crossmakeever County Londonderry Widow who died 17 September 1895 granted at Londonderry to Richard Gibson and John Montgomery Farmers. Effects £61 0s. 6d.
Probate of the Will of Richard Patterson late of Crossmakeever County Londonderry Farmer who died 5 February 1912 granted at Londonderry to John Montgomery and Andrew Boyd Frizzell Farmers
Both wills should be in PRONI in paper format. They will normally copy them for you (for a fee).
Mary Jane Patterson was Hugh Patterson’s wife. She was 84 when she died.
The family was Presbyterian. You may know which church they attended, but if not Aghadowey has baptisms from 1855 and marriages from 1845; Killaig has baptisms from 1805 and marriages from 1836 (both with gaps) & Ringsend has baptisms from 1871 and marriages from 1845. Copies of all those records are in PRONI in Belfast. Presbyterian churches don’t generally keep burial records.
