Hello - I am trying to determine if my 2nd great grandparents, Patrick Fahy and Catherine "Kate" Nolan stayed in Ireland. They had 7 children; Ann b. July 1865, Mary b. 1866, Bernard J b 21 May 1867 (my great grandfather, who immigrated to Boston, MA and later was known as Bernard J Fay as the others went by on immigrating to the US), Honoria b. 31 May 1869, John Henry b. 16 July 1871, Ellen b. 17 Jan 1874 and Kate b. 18 April 1876. They had their children in Kiltullah, Ballybilt, Ballybane, Oranmore area of Galway. I have included Bernard & Kate''s civil birth registrations. I have found documentation of Ann, Mary, Bernard and John Henry's immigration to Boston, MA Never found any documentation of Patrick and Catherine's whereabouts in the Boston area. I have been unable to find anything in Ireland either. I am on Ancestry.com, FindMyPast, familysearch.org and irishgenealogy.ie. No luck with death records or census info. Didn't know if you could give me some guidance on what their civil parish may have been and the areas they lived in, what RC church they may have gone to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,

Regina:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The civil parish would be Oranmore and the RC parish would also be Oranmore. https://www.galwaydiocese.ie/parishes/oranmore
Like you I searched the civil death records from 1878 to 1901 and did not find any death record leads for Patrick or Catherine. Since they were not in Kiltullagh in the 1901 census, it is likely they also emigrated. If you did not find any evidence that they were in Boston, is it possible they went to England with some of the children?

Hi Roger - it is me again, Regina from Franlklin, MA, our paths cross yet another time. I have been working hard the last year; I have found relatives in Co Roscommon, Co Clare, Co Galway, Co Cork, Co Kerry, with many great grandparents and great great grandparents, I think this definitely makes me eligible for dual citizenship. I didn't set out doing this for that but I definitely feel like Ireland is my second home. I can't wait to visit. Maybe in the next year.
So the civil parish is Oranmore. So I see that Kiltullah/Kiltulla is a townland in the Civil Parish of Oranmore. Where does Ballybane and Ballybrit fit in? I saw that Ballybane is a suburb on the east side of Galway City. So what is Ballybrit? I much prefer a town/city and state and keep it simple. I'm trying to locate where the Fahy family RC church was. Plus possible neighborhoods where Patrick and Catherine were from.

Hi Regina:
One of our local volunteers, Ger is the person that may be able to assist you as he is in that area. Ballybrit is where the famous Galway Racecourse is located and just outside the city.
I'll forward this message to him for his reply.
It sounds as if you are making great strides with your family research!
All the best,
Jane

Hi Regina
Gurraun / Ballintemple / Kiltulla / Ballybrit / Ballybane / Ballyloughane are all adjoining townlands with the majority of Births Deaths and Marriages for these townlands recorded in Castlegar Church.
The marriage of Patrick Fahy to Kate Nolan on 27th April 1859 at Castlegar Church https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634151#page/96/mode/1up The address "B'Tample" Ballintemple the Bride's address usually. The sponsors Richard "Rick" and Mary Broderick were likely neighbours. (A Richard Broderick born 5th October 1836 in Ballintemple)
There were Nolan families in the Townlands of Garraun (adjoins Ballintemple) and Ballyloughane (adjoins Ballybane).
As you state the family appeared to disappear, no record on 1901 census for area.
You mentioned you had details of emigration of some of the family members. Please share and I will do further research.

Hello Gerard - sorry it took so long getting back. We had been away from home when our country put in the 'stay at home" warning. So we had to pack up and drive 2500 miles to get home.
Patrick Fahy and Catherine "Kate" Nolan had 7 children; Ann b. Ann immigrated to Boston, MA between 1883 and 1885 based on census info, Mary immigrated to Boston, MA between 1882 and 1886, Bernard (my great grandfather) immigrated about 1882 at about age 15 and John Henry immigrated about 1882 at about age 11 (possibly Bernard and John Henry came over together). I can find nothing on Honoria, Ellen or Kate. I'm thinking Ann or Mary named one of their daughters Nora possibily after their sister Honoria who may have died at a young age.
I was not able to find any specific passenger transport lists. I don't know if this information helps. All the information on immigration I found from US census information, so it is not exact. I did check the church records but found nothing.
Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Best, Regina

Hello again - it's been a year since we touched base. I just got back into researching my Fahy-Nolan line of Galway, Galway. I have about 15 Irish lines I am juggling.
My family research in West Galway involves my Fahy-Nolan line of Galway, Galway. My 2nd GGF Patrick Fahy b. 1835 of Ballintemple-Kiltulla, Galway, Galway son of Bryan Fahy and Mary McDonnell/McDermott. Patrick married Catherine "Kate" Nolan b. 1837 of Ballyloughane, Galway, Galway daughter of Bartly Nolan and Honor Murphy. Patrick and Catherine had 8 children: Michael b. Dec 1869 in Kiltulla, Oranmore, Mary b. Oct 1863 in Kiltulla, Oranmore, Honor "Ann" b. Jul 1865 in Kiltulla, Oranmore, Brien b. May 1867 in Kiltulla, Oranmore, Honoria "Bridgit" b. May 1869 in Kiltuallah, Oranmore, John b. Jul 1871 Ballybrit, Ellen "Nelly" b. Jan 1874 in Ballybane and Kate b. Apr 1876 in Ballybane. Mary, Annie, Brien and John immigrated to Jamaica Plain & Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts in the mid 1870s - I have no immigration information. I have all the Fahy children's baptismal records if you need them. All the baptismal records I have are from the Castlegar Parish. (If you need them I can upload them for you.)
I am trying to find out more about my Bryan Fahy & Mary McDonnell/McDermott line as well as my Bartly Nolan and Honor Murphy line. I am trying to build out their families and identify Patrick and Catherine's siblings. As of right now, I found in Griffith's Valuation a Bryan Fahy from Pollkeen, Ballintemple. I also found a number of Galway Fund sustainability loans for a Bryan Fahy of Ballintemple. I am also trying to better understand the area to learn about where my ancestors lived and might be buried.
Sincerely,

Hey Regina,
I am also a descendant of Patrick Fahy, specifically from the John Henry line. I was wondering if you found any more information about the Nolan and Fahy ancestry. Also if you have any connections to current relatives in Ireland. I am currently studying in Ireland and would love to reach out to anyone you have contact info for. My geneology also confirms that the family lived in Oranmore and that Kate and Patrick were married in 1859 at the Castlegar church in Galway.
Hopefully your able to see this and add to it before I head to Galway in a few weeks. Any tips for current relatives Fahy relatives or more specifics on the Nolan line would be extremely helpful.
Thanks,
Kenneth
p.s. I've been looking back over the ancestry.com archives and I think I have you to thank for a lot of the updates to the tree in the last couple years, so thank you for that as well.

Kenneth - I am just seeing your posting from April, 2021. How exciting to be studying or have studied in Ireland. I suspect you are home now. To answer your question, no I have not made contact with anyone in the Oranmore area of Ireland yet though I have made a lot of DNA connections to cousins most in the US. I have made connections to the ancestors of Annie Fahy Roth and John Henry Fay. I reached out to the Castlegar Church now known as St Columba's probably over a year ago but have not heard back. I continue to work on the Fahy/Nolan/McDermott/Murphy line but also have 15 other lines that I continue to work on too. My line from Patrick and Kate is thru their son, Bryan who became known as Bernard Fay on immigration to the US. Bryan/Bernard and John H had two older sisters, Mary, age 18 and Annie, age 16-17 who immigrated to the US abt 1882 and Bryan, age 15 and John, age 11 appeared to have immigrated abt the same time. Did they go as a foursome or did the whole family go. I do not know. I find travel records do not provide enough information but should probably look into that. While researching I get hints that make me suspect they may have immigrated to the US too.
Anyway, would love to hear about your trip to Ireland and see how you fit into the family, plus get your input on how it was being out of the US during the pandemic. Bryan/Bernard was my 1st GGF, his son Joseph b. 1893 married Sarah Dolan b. 1895, their 2nd child Madeline is my mother, b. 1916 d. 2011. Best way to reach me is through my email - walsh.rr@comcast.net.
Best,
your cousin Regina
