Hello! I am looking for information about Margaret Fagan who (unverified family story) was born about 1838 and came from County Longford. Margaret had a sister, Mary, who immigrated to New York City @1845. I don't know if they travelled together. Their parents may have been Michael P. Fagan and Bridget Walsh, also informtion for which I have no sources.

Margaret Fagan married Edward Hammer in New York City in1858.

Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello again!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any Fagan baptismal records for children of Michael Fagan and Bridget Walsh.  ( I searched all of Ireland). I also searched for a Michael Fagan/Bridget Walsh marriage record with no success.

There are about five RC parishes in Co. Longford which have records starting 1840 or later. Possibly the Fagans belonged to one of those parishes and earlier church records were lost.

  • Thank you, again and again! Now you know as much about my family lines as I do, owing to your research in Offaly, Westmeath and Longford Counties. I truly appreciate all your hard work and wish it had been more rewarding. I wish I knew why my ancestors had been so closed-mouthed about where they were from. Certainly I grew up with Irish music, perhaps songs of the diaspora. They may have been just too sad about having to leave....

    Thank you so much.
