  • Margot,

This is new information to me. I know Martin came to Australia on The Tudor but the rest I did not know.

Where did you find the information and do you have any other information about Cath Murphy?

I have been away on holiday so missed this post in Dec.

  • Hi Neville,
This list I found by chance ages ago.
No sorry, I only saw Cath Murphy's name, Martin must have gone to stay with her on arrival.
There a record of a Catherine Moloney from Thurles she went in 1854, you would have to look for a marriage for her to a Murphy to see if it is her.
Deaths before 1864 were not registered.
Do you know of any siblings and their years to Martin?
This would help to see if I caould track them in Ireland.
    Cheers

    Margot,

    Martin's siblings were:

    James Maloney 27 Aug 1829

    Mary Moloney 24 Feb 1831

    Honoria Moloney 5 Nov 1837

Daniel Moloney 26 Nov 1840 - Nov 1925 (The information I have on Daniel is assumed from Ancestory, The birth date fits and he is buring in Youngalarra whwere thye lived. His wife was named Mary BUT there is also a 1901 Census with a Daniel that also fits but a wife Catherins Census file is attached)

Within the family a story was told that when Martin came Australia in 1860 another brother decided to go to America and lived near Boston. That was backed up with a reliable story that a US serviceman visted one of Martin's sons in Australia during WWII in 1943- to 1945 and I have  sigthed a postcard from the US family to that son in Australia back then as well. I have not been able to trace that US line of the family.

The attached file moloneyfamily.jpg is information I got from Ireland in 1991

    Thanks,

    Neville

  • Hi Neville,
The 1901 census, I traced the children's births their Mother was Mary Hickey, but she may be Mary Catherine.
in the 1911 Census it says they were married 34 years, checking the marriage she was Mary Hickey. Daniel's Father was Michael.

The Chapel is in Portroe, if you get a map and look for Portroe, you will then see it's near to Youghal.
    So must be your Daniel.
This is Michael's death, ths place Ballycarrido is part of Newtown which is next to Portroe. (I have checked all the Michael Moloney men)

I will search for James, Mary and Honoria.
