Hi. I'm looking for information on my 3rd great grandparents:. Elizabeth (nee Moore or Murrin) & Charles Gillin.
Here's what I know:
Elizabeth was born abt1815 in County Wicklow but I don't know the parish or townland. The records I find show her maiden name could be Moore or Murrin. Perhaps some variation?
She and Charles married in 1832 in Ireland before immegrating to the US. They may have lived in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (USA) before finally settling in York/Holbrook, Iowa (USA).
They are buried in the R.C. cemetery I. Holbrook so I assume they were RC in Ireland too.
In advance, thanks! Laura

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found a number of Elizabeth Moore baptismal records in Co. Wicklow. There were four records around 1815: one in 1816 two in 1817 and one in 1818 but they were all Chruch of Ireland baptisms. I tried Murrin and found an 1813 record below which was RC. I also searched for Charles Gill in marriage records for all of Ireland and di not find one around 1832 to an Elizabeth Moore/Murrin/Muran. Sorry, I could not find more info.
You could add Elizabeth's story of emigration to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection. https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…
Have you considered DNA testing?
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Roger.
Thank you for checking into this so quickly.
I have done DNA through ancestry.com. is there something specific you'd recommend I look for from it? Or another site I should consider?
I have several Irish ancestors and what I've mainly learned from DNA is my people are Munster people. I'm not entirely sure what that means to be honest.
Again, thank you for your help. I'll see if I can learn more about Elizabeth.

I assume you have looked at your top matches on Ancestry and sent them messages to try to see where you are connected. (NOTE not everyone responds to the messages).
You can also upload your Ancestry data to a volunteer site called Genesis Gedmatch www.genesis.gedmatch.com You will get matches with people who tested with other companies and also loaded their data to Genesis Gedmatch.

Thank you. I will check into that. I looked at family search.org and, according to that site, Elizabeth's maiden name was Murin. I'll do some more research.
Have a great day! Laura
