Hello, 

Eliza came to Australia under the Earl Grey scheme in 1849, one hundred and fifty years ago this year.  She had been at the Kilkenny workhouse.  I have not been able to find a record of her parents, birthplace or parish.  Here death certificate shows her parents as William Shaw and Eliza nee Thompson and her birthplace as Ireland.  I would love to hear from anyone who has any further information or contact with family members.  Eliza was my great grandmother.  Thank you, Maureen.

    On Ancestry, the passenger list shows Eliza born in 1834 and belonging to the Church of England.

    I checked RootsIreland (paid subscription) but did not find a birth record there. Since Eliza's last name is Thompson, I assume Eliza's mother was single when she had her??

  • Thank you, Mary.  I am well versed in Eliza's story.  I am hoping to find her birthplace and wonder if there are family members - descendants of siblings for example - out there.  Maureen.
