I am researching Denis Murphy born about 1795 Bantry, Cork. Died about 1871, Cork. He had a son Daniel Murphy born 1810 Rossmore County Tipperary and died in Australia 1858.
I am trying to find Denis Murphy's wife and his parents names and any other information I can.

Colleen,
I found a Denis Murphy born in Bantry in 1795. The baptismal record was on the free site Irishgenealogy.

If this is your Denis, his parents were John Murphy and Honora Hugh.

Colleen,
Some thoughts-
On Ancestry, most of the trees show Daniel's father as Daniel. Is this your Daniel?
Australia Death Index
Name Daniel Murphy Death Date 1858 Death Place Maitland, New South Wales Registration Date 1858 Registration Place Maitland, Australia Father Daniel Registration Number 4067 The Daniel from the trees, wife was Ellen Bourke.
One of their children
Name Sarah Murphy Baptism Age 0 Event Type Baptism Birth Date 1836 Baptism Date 11 Oct 1836 Baptism Place Ballycahill and Holy-Cross, Tipperary, Ireland Parish Variants Ballycahill, Ballycahill and Holycross, Holycross Diocese Cashel and Emly Father Daniel Murphy Mother Ellen Bourke Most of the trees show Frances Donegan as mother. When Daniel and his family left Ireland, they were leaving from Rossmore, County Tipperary. It doesn't mean he was born there.
Concern if his father was truly born in 1795, he would have been only 12 when Daniel was born.

Thank you Mary, on Daniel's immigration record he named his father Denis. But as you said most people have his father as Daniel. So I am very confused and don't know. Do you think it is Denis or Daniel.
Colleen.

Mary as you said Denis would of been too young to be Daniel's father so maybe it is Daniel. Also on Daniel's headstone in New South Wales it states he was from Rossmore, Parish of Clonoulty, County of Tipperary. He had several daughters but none he named Francis after his mother which I find strange as I know the Irish always named their children after parents grandparents etc. So all this is very confusing for me. Immigration records state he and his wife left Ireland from Limerick.

Hi Mary, this is the immigrant form for Daniel Murphy. I have been trying to read the native of ? County Tipperary. Can you tell me what that place is because I can't read it. Also can you see he says he is son of Denis. It looks like Denis but others in ancestry have Daniel as you said.

Colleen,
I think you know Ancestry shows the town as Rossmore. I would have difficulty transcribing from the record above. His headstone does not identify Rossmore, only Clonoulty. It is too bad his father's name is lost between the pages. It could be Denis. The 'a' in farmer is different. Did he name one of his sons Denis or Daniel?

Thanks again for your help.

Colleen,
Curious. Why are you investigating a Denis/ Daniel from Cork? Your paperwork seems to lead that your Daniel's father might be from Tipperary. How do you know he was born/ died in Cork?

Hi Mary, I thought that Denis was Daniel's father because it was the only one that seem to fit seeing Denis was the name on his immigration form. And being from Australia, Ireland seems so small I just thought all these places over there seem so close I thought it was a possibility. So now it seems that his father might be Daniel after all. The Daniel that everyone else has in ancestry. I think I will be doing a lot of deleting from ancestry as I don't know where to go from here.
Many thanks.

Colleen,
My question was how do you know Daniel/ Denis actually came from Cork or that his son Daniel is from there? I have not found any records on the Ancestry trees that support this, other than the birth record above, but how do they know they identified the right Daniel? Before you delete your tree, I would contact some of the owners of the trees and ask why they think Daniel's father's name is Daniel? I am sure it is because of Daniel's death record. Also based on the name Denis, as father, on the immigration paper and Rossmore, Tipperary being identified where he is from, why do they locate him in Cork?
I would think Daniel would have known his father's name and where he was living when he filled out the immigration papers. That said, if someone was filling out the form for him, they may have made a mistake. or Daniel's family in Australia might have made a mistake on the death record.

Hi Mary, I don't know where Daniel's father came from. Somewhere in ancestry I found out that Daniel came from the same place as his father so I guess that is Rossmore. I do think his very young children could of made mistakes. They were left as orphans and raised by the oldest brother who was also young.
Honestly I don't think the other people are correct with the father being Daniel as I said before there are no children or grandchildren in the Murphy tree named Frances.
As for other people in ancestry I have tried to contact lots of people on there and a few are helpful but I have found that most don't even bother to reply to me.
I am grateful for your help.
