In researching my family history, I've found that the Cull surname is predominantly found in two counties, Down and Leitrim. My family comes from Clonallon and Kilbroney in Down. Does anyone know the history of the Cull families in Leitrim? I know that there was a migration of many families from Armagh and Down to Leitrim (and to other places in Connacht) during the 1790s when the Catholic Defenders were fighting the Peep o'Day Boys, especially after the Battle of the Diamond. There's even a monument to those displaced families near Bencroy. Is there a connection between the Leitrim Culls and those from Down??
