I am trying to find information on my great great grandparents Mary Ann Culbert and Charles Archibald.

Mary Ann was born in Co. Kildare around 1844 and died on 29th Dec. 1904 in Dublin.  Charles was born around 1844 and died on 1st February 1899.

There is a church record from 1860 showing a Mary Ann Culbert marrying a Charles Archibald in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.  This is probably them but it contains no other information.

Mary Ann & Charles had 3 children that I know of:

James (1861-1865),

Lucy (1863-1942) married John Lacey (b. 1865) and

Charles (my great grandfather) (1871-1914) married Bridget (Delia) Byrne (1871-1962).

There are a number of Culberts listed in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare in 1901 census and some of these may be connected to Mary Ann. A number of these Culberts are listed as being "shoemakers" and some of them seemed to move to America later.

Any other information would be very welcome.

Thank you,

Ronan Malin

  • Ronan,

Here’s Charles Archibald’s birth cert on 19.3.1871 at 28 St John Roger’s Quay, Dublin. Father a labourer.

That would tend to fit with the Dun Laoghaire marriage in Dublin that you have found.

  • Ronan:

Here is a transcription from Roots Ireland which may be the baptismal record for your Mary Ann Culbert. Looks like she may have had at least four siblings: Alicia 1832 Stephen 1833 John 1836 Bridget 1841

    Hi Ronan,

Can you get in touch please so that we can share/query information? Charles Archibold and Mary Culbert were my wife's GGgrandfather. Their daughter Ellen married Matthew O'Reilly in Dublin in 1889. Based on the 1901 Census and Mary's Death Record, I would have thought her more likely to be born c.1843 though the posts here suggest 1839. Interestingly, the online Parish Records for that parish are missing for one month - January 1839 !! I have details of three of Charles' (b1871) siblings - and who/when they married- surprising that with 3 girls neither Bridget or Mary reappears. I look forward to hearing from you - or anyone else with further/better information.
