Hello,
I am looking for assistance in connecting our family to the original emigrant ancestor in Ireland.
I have followed the family back from the United States and found a number of sources and documents that describe when he arrived in Nova Scotia Canada.
This has alternately documented his home as Coleraine, Derry, Londonderry, Antrim and Ulster.
His information is as follows:
Samuel Ashmore Creelman
Birth 1728 Ireland
Death 1810 Colchester Co. Nova Scotia
Spouse Isabel Flemming. B 1728 Ireland
Emigration to NS.. 1759 Or 1761,conflicting reports, each record listed Samuel arriving with his two brothers, Matthew and Francis. As well as his wife and son Samuel Jr born 1858.
One biography stated the family originated in Scotland and that the family name was Ashemore.
Unfortunately the date spans for both the name and Scotland history are also unknown. Ashmore was retained as a middle name in the future generations however.
I truly appreciate any insight that could be given. All attempts at confirming his location, much less family connections have been fruitless.
As there are over 350 known direct descendants in America alone, and we are all struggling with this step, it would be such a profound blessing to our entire family to finally locate the origin of Samuel.
In an aside.. His descendants are located in Canada, 12 states in the US, Fiji, England, Australia and New Zealand. He's left quite the global legacy!
Thank you in advance for your time and efforts on our behalf.
Best Regards,
Laura S.

Hi Laura,
I had a look on www.rootsireland.ie/ for Samuel's birth/baptism but had no luck. The earliest Samuel is 1828 Donegal.
Earliest Creelman marriage record on roots is 1839 & burial 1892
PRONI is free to access online; the surname search yielded these:

Thank you so much for taking the time to search! I'll look into these leads further. And providing the sites is a huge help. Thank you!
We've submitted DNA and are waiting for the results. I'm not sure how much help it will be as it's most accurate in recent generations and Samuel is ten generations back. But hope springs eternal!
Many blessings,

I don't know if you are following this thread anymore. I was born an Ashmore in Maine, USA. My grandfather's lineage is out of Nova Scotia. I just found out tonight that my ancestral last name maybe Creelman. My Nova Scotia connection is a Joseph Ashmore who married a woman named Mary. Joseph was born in Canada in 1758 and died in Halifax in 1823. Now you mentioned that your Samuel arrived with 2 brothers. There are many things interesting with your story. My grandfather said that our Ashmore lines came over "under a cloak of darkness" and that there were 3 brothers that came together. He had no names to offer or if he did, I forgot them because I was quite young when he told me this story. Things are really adding up as to what my grandfather told me. If I can be of any help, I can try but can't make promises.

Thank you for your reply. I would love to collaborate with you and see if the families are one and the same, and perhaps further each others research.
