I am the grandson of James Connaughton. To the best of my knowledge James was born in 1870 and lived in the area of Moate in County Westmeath prior to his emigration to New York in the United States in the early 1890's. I would be very grateful for any information or contacts you may have that will help me know more about him and my Irish Ancestors.
James' father was Michael Connaughton and we believe his mother's maiden name was Mary Stone. Michael and Mary had many children. Besides James there was Michael, Thomas, Katherine, Bridget and Patrick.
I have seen references in the early 1900 Irish census records where Bridget, Patrick and their mother Mary Connaughton are mentioned. I did come across the Last Will and Testament for Patrick from my mother. In the will there is mention that Patrick lived in Culleenagower, Moate in the County of Westmeath and the lands at Culleenagower and Hallynamuddagh in the County of Westmeath being the lands comprised in Folio 5325 of the Register County Westmeath. The will also mentions bequeaths given to the Prior of the Carmelite Friary, Moate and the Parish Priest at the time of my death of Tubbor, Moate.
Please, any information would be most appreciated. Thank you so much.

Donald:
James was born January 14 1869. See last record at this link https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…; The family lived in Culleenagower townland in Kilmanaghan civil parish. James was baptized Januaury 17 1869
On the subscription site Roots Ireland, there are eight baptismal records for children of Michael Connaughton and Mary Stones; John 1859 Elizabeth 1861 Mary 1863 Michael 1865 James 1869 Catherine 1872 Bridget 1875 Patrick 1879. The RC church was Tubber and Rosemont which is east of Moate. The marriage of Michael and Mary was July 28 1858 in Tubber and Rosemont.
See first record. Michael died in 1896 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
See sixth record likely death record for Mary https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
The Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilmanaghan civil parish listed a Darby Connaughton and a James Connaughton living in Culleenagower townland. Possibly one of the two was the father of Michael.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Roger. You certainly filled in some gaps for me. I am unfamiliar with the term "Cullenagower Township" hoping you can clarify for me what that means. From what you mentioned I take it that Moate is the town/city within County Westmeath. Is Cullenagower a small community within the borders of Moate? Any idea what Hallynamuddagh may be to which my mother's cousin referred?
Might you also have a reference for a Josephine "Josie" Connaughton? She is a niece of my mother's cousin Patrick whom my mother says cared for him until he died. I would be most interested knowing who her parents were.
Thank you for the information you have provided.

Donald:
A townland is the smallest land division in Ireland. A number of townlands make up a civil parish.
Culleenagower is a 177 acre townland in Kilmanaghan civil parish in southwest Co. Westmeath near the Co. Offaly border
Hallynamuddagh is actually Ballynamuddagh a 639 acre townland in Kilcleagh civil parish which borders Kilmanaghan civil parish. Kilcleagh is a much larger parish than Kilmanaghan.
Regarding Josephine, the only record I could find was this birth record in 1916. No idea if this is her birth record.
