Grasping at straws in advance of September visit. I'm hoping to find information or find people with connections to Conlons residing in the Stabannon area including Poobrock and Braganstown in the 1800s. I descend from Michael Conlon and Mary Kearney who were married at Narowlan (Narrow Lane), Braganstown. Looking at marriage and baptism records and cross referencing them I believe I have found likely siblings for both as there are a number of members of both families living at Narowlan and bearing children at the same time. Michael would have been born sometime around 1790 for reference. Michael and Mary had a daughter, Margaret, in 1814 and son Mathew in 1817 (both children were born at Poolbrock). Michael passed away in 1823 after which Mary Kearney married Nicholas Woods of Stabannon (there is a Nicholas Woods in the tithe applotments in Charleville that may be him). There is at least one other Conlon/Kearney marriage and I believe these are likely respective siblings, a Catherine Conlon married to Owen Kearney (with children Margaret Kearney b. 1809, Jane Kearney b. 1812, Anne Kearney b. 1813, and Catherine Kearney b.1816). I've also located a Henry Conlon I believe could be a sibling of Michael's, married to Bridget Deery (with children P. Conlon b. 1809, Mary Conlon b. 1811, Mathew Conlon b. 1813, Bernard Conlon b. 1814, Richard Conlon b. 1816, Owen Conlon b. 1817, and Henry Conlon b. 1819). Other potential siblings for Michael include a Thomas Conlon, Judith Conlon, James Conlon, and Patrick Conlon. By the time of Griffith's valuation in the 1850s no Conlons are obviously apparent in the area with the exception of a Patrick Conlon living at Poolbrock. Anyone else connected to any of these people? Attached photos of Mathew Conlon, son of Michael Conlon and Mary Kearney

Hi Dan, I see the marriage in 1812, her address is Narrow Lane and his is not given, the parish name in the church records is Kilsarnan which is just south of Castlebellingham, almost one town when driving through it. The marriage was 9th Feb 1812 and the witnesses were Matthew Conlan and Patrick Durnin, both males if transcription is correct, also see the two children you mention and can find no others. However the only marriage I can see of a Nicholas Woods is in 1824 and the wife is recorded as Catherine Macullow probably McCullough, this was in Tallenstown parish (adjoining) on 26th August 1824, I can find no other Nicholas Woods marriage around this time, using Roots Ireland a subscription site, have alse searched under Woods marriages etc nor could I find a baptism with the names of Kearney or Conlan as the mother, there were 4 different mothers to the father Nicholas Woods including a Peter to the Catherine McCullaw.
There were no death records for a dead Conlin around that period either but not unusual as we are relying completely on church records.
Now here are some sites that may assist you, you cans search Catholic registers here but by date only and they can be a difficult read, https://registers.nli.ie/ remember it is Kilsarnan parish, Stabannon is the civil name and you can see where the the various townlands here https://www.townlands.ie/louth/stabannan1/
There is a site on Louth here and if you search Conlon you get a lot of hits, including a lot of Conlons and those transcribed are there, these are available to see in the Louth Library research centre in Dundalk, however the ones of interest are marked HK which is a book published in 1908 by the Revd, Leslie , the Louth site is here https://www.jbhall.clahs.ie/index.html and the Leslie book was on Google Books to read but I cannot find it now and it may be because it is reprinted now, have not seen it on sale but it will be in the Library research rooms.
The book is History Of Kilsaran Union Of Parishes In The County Of Louth, Being A History Of The Parishes Of Kilsaran, Gernonstown, Stabannon, Manfieldstown, And Dromiskin, With Many Particulars Relating To The Parishes Of Richardstown, Dromin, And Darver
Gernonstown is now Castlebellingham.
There is a Louth Genealogy Page on Facebook, apply to join and it is not very busy but you may strike lucky and find someone who knows a relative, membership is of course worldwide so not sure how many locals there.
Feel free to follow up with a question or even plural.
Good Luck
Pat
PS I live about 20 miles from Kilsarnan.

Hi Roger,
I did fill out the form for my trip a while back but was not sure exactly what was needed nor my exact dates at the time. I never heard anything back re: Louth. I'll be in Drogheda 9/4 and then on to Stabannon on 9/5 and 9/6, leaving for Derry on 9/7. I located the Patrick Conlon farm buildings from Griffiths Valuation and would love to visit but haven't had much luck figuring out how to get permission. They don't appear to be in use but are on private property. I was also able to locate Narrow Lane but there appears to be very little there. Also curious to know where these Conlons/Kearneys would have been buried, haven't figured that one out yet either. Any thoughts, Dan

Hi Pat,
Thank you for such an in depth reply. I actually have the Leslie book, what a great resource that is. Definitely was not aware of the Louth genealogy page and can't wait to explore it.
I should also have mentioned there was a daughter between Nicholas Woods and Mary Kearney in 1831, Mary Woods. I'm not certain whether she was born in Ireland or the US as this was around the time they would have emigrated. Mary married Patrick Marron b. Feb 9, 1820 to Francis Marron and Mary Kelly. These Marrons were also from Louth. So far I haven't been able to locate them though Ardee seems the most likely to me for a couple of reasons. I also descend from Francis Marron and Mary Kelly via another son, Owen Marron b. 1821. He married an Ellen Mcphillips of Co Cavan prior to leaving Ireland. Francis and Mary had other sons James, Michael, Thomas, Frank, Bernard, Lawrence, John, Mathew, and Mary Marron. There are a number of Marron's with these names appearing around Ardee, including one Francis who turns up in the tithe applotments but disappears by the time of Griffiths. Haven't found anything more definitive than that this far however.

Dan, I do not see the marriage Marron / McPhillips nor the birth of Owen.
As I will not receive automatic notifications if you try to contact via this thread after a few days I will not be aware of your attempt so if you are writing later please open a new thread as it will come to the top and I will follow the Louth queries.
Thanks
Pat
