My g.grandmother was born Catherine POWER in 1862. She came to England and married a William KIELY in London in 1883. The marriage certificates names her father as Nicholas POWER, farmer. The 1891 census shows her birthplace as Waterford Catherine was institutionalised in 1895 and her children were told she was dead only discovering she had spent 37 years in an asylum when her husband died. Catherine's son Anthony was sent to Catherine's family to be educated sometime after 1901 but no-one still living knows where that was. I have very little to go on and I am hoping that someone has her in their tree and could tell me where she was born.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and there was no 1862 baptismal record for a Catherine Power with father Nicholas in Co. Waterford. The closest record was an September 7, 1858 baptismal record in Dunhill RC parish. Father was Nicholas  Power and mother was Mary Carroll. Many immigrants adjusted their age in their new country.

  • Hi Roger,
Thank you for this information, I will certainly take a look at this family. I am grateful for ANY lead that may get me closer to finding Catherine's family.
