I am looking for the parents or John Britt b. about 1803 near Carrick-on-Suir and Carrickbeg, Co. Waterford. His father's name was Patrick Britt and his mother Honora or Margaret. They were probably living near Portlaw in the 1830s, possibly Carrick Road or Carrickbeg. I am also looking for the parents of Ellen Tierney b. about 1810. She appears to have a brother Thomas who married Alice Flynn in 1831. Her parents names are either Patrick or John and her mother was Margaret or Honora.
There is also an Ellen Britt b. about 1819 who could be John Britt' sister/cousin. She married William Stackpole from Co. Cork and a Patrick Britt b. 1812 who was probably another relative. It appears her first wife was Johanna Brennan who died on the vogage to Canada . He then married an Anastasia O'Brien in Bytown who was also from Ireland. These people all emigrated to Bytown (Ottawa), Canada in the late 1830s. Just wondering if anyone has anyone by those names in their trees. Thank you
D. Britt

Hello Diane,
I found this in the process of researching my 3x Grandfather Thomas Britt (1815-1898)
I have no record of any brothers or sisters. One son, Thomas who died in 11/11/1876 in
Carrickbeg,Clonmel, Waterford? I've been told that there was a brother, Patrick. Who I have
a living Uncle Patrick that is his namesake.
I would love to hear more about your story,
Sincerely,
James Britt

Hello Dianne,
I have a sneaking suspicion I may be somehow distantly connected to this family as I have ancestors from the same area and the name Britt is appearing in my DNA results. If you are intersted in looking into this please let me know.

Hi James, yes, I am interested in pursuing this Thomas Britt line. My gg grandfather was John Britt born approx. 1803. He named his first male child Patrick which would be in keeping with his father. His first daughter was Honora again, in keeping with his mother. He may have had a brother or cousin named Patrick who was born in appros. 1812 and even maybe a sister named Ellen born in approx. 1819. John was married in the parish of Portlaw, in Waterford Co., which is in keeping with the bride's parish. Yet, I cannot find any of them in Portlaw. I have a Patrick Britt who lived on the Carrich Road near Portlaw in the 1840s. Then, there is an Honora Britt (widow) living on the same road. lf your Britts are from Carrickberg, then, somehow, these people must be related. Let me know what yours are and we can go from there. Thanks James,
D. Britt

Thanks,
JamesHello!
Unfortunately I don't know any siblings for Thomas Britt (1815-1898). I've seen Patrick in later generations. I can confirm Thomas' wife was Margareth O'Dwyer (1846-1886) due to the age difference, I'm led to believe this might have been a second marriage. They were both in the US by 1850. For Thomas, I have his father as Thomas also (1790-1860) and Elizabeth Clarke (1792-1884). She was the daughter of a Captain, who was lost at Sea. She's from St. John's, New Brunswick, Canada.
please let me know if any of this sounds familiar.ixouser797384

Hi Diane!
I am related to the Stackpole family from Cork through my mother. William Stackpole who married Ellen Britt is my 2nd great uncle. I don't have any information for Ellen's family but I would be interested in anything you may have found out since posting your inquiry.
Everything I have is geared towards William and I only have information for Ellen as of their marriage.
You can reach me at joyjoywatson@gmail.com anytime.
Hoping this message finds you well,
Joy
