Bernard Feeney at the age of 44, died at Strokestown Workhouse March 2, 1864  in a horse and buggy accident according to his wife's Ohio obituary. The Civil Death Records indicate he was servant at the workhouse. Unknown if he lived there or only worked there? Bernard and his wife Bridget (Mchugh or Feeney also) had 7 children known to us as  Bernard, Patrick, John, Maria, James, Bridget and Winifred. We believe they were born in Tulsk. We descend from Winifred Feeney. I have records of each of these families, their spouses and the fact that they all settled in Youngstown Ohio, potentially stopping in Pennsylvania. His wife also made it to Ohio. (Born 1829 and died 1992) I believed they came through Canada, chain migration, any immigration leads welcome.

I also believe that Bernard had siblings, a John married to Sarah Conroy, James and Michael . I am interested in knowing if there are any records or ability to pursue Strokestown records for family address and details of his death and burial. Would be a gift to know his siblings as well.  Thank you for this opportunity.

  • Hi DKD, this is the death of Bernard Feeney as you can see there isn't an image on line.
BUT.............if you follow the link you can get a copy of the record for 5 Euro. (takes about 3 weeks by email)
This is NOT a full certificate.  Well worth it as it will give more details.

I searched the British Newspapers Archive for any mention of Bernard’s death or a possible inquest. But without success.

The Roscommon Messenger of 5th March 1864 reported the weekly Board of Guardians' meeting at Strokestown workhouse, but Bernard was not mentioned in their discussions.
