    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on Roots Ireland and did not locate a baptismal record for Eleanor with father James. The records for the RC parish of Kilvine do not start until 1870 so if she was baptized in that parish then no record would be available.

I checked the Tithe and Griffiths records for Kilvine civil parish and did not locate any Garry records.

We have an XO Chronicles site https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…; where you can post a story about Eleanor.

You also may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

  • Hello Roger, thank you for your reply. I have a handwritten memoir of Eleanor Garry so know a little about her and I know that she moved to London as a young woman, marrying an Englishman.  Have followed her fortunes and misfortunes on census reports.  I visited the Parish Church in Ballendine when I was there and the priest their confirmed that Eleanor's birth pre-dated their record keeping although he did not think that Garry is a common name in the region now.  One of her parents was Roman Catholic, the other Protestant.  Her father and grandfather were classically educated as both could read and write Greek and Latin and were often called upon to read and write documents for landowners.

    Warm regards and many thanks
