Seeking more information about my GGGGgrandfather, Anthony Towey (1830-1894), or his father Michael Towey. My GGGgrandmother, Ellen "Nellie" Towey, immigrated to the United States and I would love to learn more about where she came from.
Thank you!

Emily:
Ardkill is likely the townland in Castlemore parish in Roscommon. Ardkill is very close to the Mayo border and in fact 3.4 kilometers from Kilmovee village. If you have access to Google Maps you should be able to see where it is located.
Towey is extremely common around the town of Ballaghaderreen which is the nearest "big" town. In fact there were thirteen Towey families in Ardkill in the 1901 census.
In case you don't have the record, here is a link to the 1894 civil death record. His brother John was the informant. Do you have Anthony's wife's name. She is likely in the 1901 census.

Hi Roger,
Based on that death record for Anthony Towey, where would he be buried? His wife, Mary Breheny Towey, still lived in Ardkill in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. We are having trouble finding her death record or where she is buried as well. The remains of their stone cottage are still standing and my cousins were able to visit with a distant cousin, Michael Towey, who has possession of the land in Ardkill now. Attaching pictures of the cottage.
Ellen Towey, daughter of Anthony Towey and Mary Breheny Towey, is my 3rd great-grandmother. She left Ireland in 1880 for the United States. I am hoping to visit Ireland for the first time this fall and am anxious to see the land where Anthony and Mary lived. Thank you for all your help!
Thank you!

Likely Kilcolman Old cemetery. From the Square in Ballaghaderreen take the R293 road out towards Kilmovee. A half mile out the Old cemetery is on the right and the New cemetery is on the left. The question is whether the family had the resources to erect a headstone. I will look for a death record.

Here is the info I have on my mother's maiden name of Towey.
Lawrence Cook(e) married Margaret Regan sometime in the early 1800's. They had at least one daughter, Elizabeth Bessie Cook(e) who was born in Ardkill Dec-15-1877. Elizabeth married Pat J. Towey, born Dec-14-1878, who was born to Martin Towey and Catherine Duffy.. Pat and Elizabeth immigrated to the US and had at least three daughters, Patricia, Eleanor and my mother Winifred Mary Towey who was born in Butte Montana, Dec 08-1908.
