Margaret Haughery was born in Tully, Co. Leitrim in 1813. She would later become known as "The Angel of the Delta" and dedicated her life to helping orphans in New Orleans. A commemerative statue was built to honour her after her death in 1882 and stands in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans.
This was such a beautiful and inspiring story. It is such a treasure to all of us of Irish blood to be reminded of those who risked, and often lost, everything. Yet they persevered and continued on, blessing untold numbers of people along the way. Thank you so much for sharing these stories!
